A Limiter on Dynamic Metrics to Reduce Routing Loops in Wireless Mesh Networks

To improve the communication performance in IEEE802.11-based wireless mesh networks (WMNs), several dynamic metrics have been proposed. However, all of them have a severe risk of generating temporary routing loops which may cause severe congestion and disruption of communications. Although the routing loop is an essential problem that degrades network performance, no essential solution is provided so far for wireless multihop networks. In this paper, we propose a mechanism called Loop-free Metric Range (LMR) to make existing dynamic metrics loop-free by restricting the range of metric values to change. LMR is applicable to a major part of existing metrics including ETX, ETT, MIC, etc. without any message overhead. We first provide theoretical results that shows LMR guarantees loop-freedom if no message loss takes place. We next show that LMR is also practically effective in practical scenarios where message loss may take place; we show through simulation and actual evaluations that LMR works effectively as a limiter on dynamic metrics to reduce routing loops and to improve network performance through similation and real evaluation.------------------------------This is a preprint of an article intended for publication Journal ofInformation Processing(JIP). A Distributed Scheduling through Queue-length Exchange in CSMA-based Wireless Mesh Networks

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) over CSMA MAC (especially IEEE 802.11) are an attractive solution to widen the coverage area of the Internet in unlicensed frequency bands. Although such CSMA-based WMNs have been deeply investigated for a long time, they still suffer from heavy interference due to hidden terminals. In this paper, we accelerate the performance of CSMA-based WMNs by introducing a distributed scheduling scheme that exchanges the transmission-queue length information in real-time among neighbor nodes. In our scheduling scheme, we exchange the information of transmission queue-lengths among neighbor nodes in real-time, and allow transmitting frames to the node that has the longest queue length among its 2-hop distance. The proposed scheduling scheme can be regarded as a distributed design of so called 'Max-weight' scheduling. 無線メッシュ網は，固定基地局を無線通信により接続したネットワークである．無線メッシュ網のMACプロトコルとして，IEEE802.11等のCSMAに基づいた規格が用いられることが多いが，隠れ端末の影響により，十分な通信性能が達成できないという問題がある．一方，単一の周波数チャネルを時分割することで送信フレームの衝突を防ぐTDMAに基づいた無線メッシュ網も議論されているが，ノード間の正確なタイミング同期が必要であり，実用化は容易ではない．そこで本論文では，単一周波数チャネルを時分割することで仮想的に多チャネル化し，各仮想チャネル内でIEEE802.11を動作させる新たなハイブリッドMACプロトコルを提案する．提案手法を適切なスケジューリング法と併用することにより，隠れ端末問題を生じない効率的な無線メッシュ網を実現できる．提案手法は相応の誤差を含んだタイミング同期でも動作するため現実的であり，また，IEEE802.11を時分割して用いるため，既存のIEEE802.11との親和性が高く，2.4GHz帯や5GHz帯を用いた無線メッシュ網を実現できる．WMNs (Wireless Mesh Networks) have been deeply studied as a wireless network infrastructure. Although many studies adopt CSMA-based MAC protocols such as IEEE802.11, they have not achieved sufficient communication performance for practical use because of the hidden terminal problem. TDMA, which divide a single frequency channel into small slots, also has been studied as a tool toward collision-less high-speed WMNs, but they have a practical difficulty; they require accurate time synchronization. In this paper, we propose a new MAC protocol in which we divide a single frequency channel of IEEE802.11 into several virtual channels via coarse time division. With a suitable scheduling algorithm that is designed for our protocol, our MAC protocol works without collisions due to the hidden terminal problem. Our method is practical because it works under loose synchronization that involves considerable time drifts, and because it can coexist with the popular IEEE802.11 devices on the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band.

A Low Management Cost Wireless Sensor Network Based on Receiver Initiated MAC Protocols

無線センサネットワークが社会を支えるネットワークとして動作するためには，敷設されたセンサネットワークを10年以上の長期にわたって維持・運用することが望ましい．このため，省電力な無線センサネットワークを実現するMACプロトコルや経路制御方式の研究が数多く見られる．しかし，標準的な乾電池やボタン電池で動作する限りでは，10年以上の長い動作寿命を実現することは到底不可能である．したがって，現実的には，定期的にバッテリを交換する等の管理コストが必要になるが，バッテリ交換にともなう管理コストを現実的な水準まで低減させることが求められる．本論文では，受信ノード主導型の低消費電力なMACプロトコルであるRC-MACを拡張することで，10年以上の長期運用を比較的低い管理コストで実現するセンサネットワーク実現技術を提案する．提案手法では，データ配送木の葉ノードは受信処理が不要であることを利用して，葉ノードの寿命を10年以上に延ばすRC-MACの拡張を提案する．また，このMACプロトコルと組み合わせることで効率良く配送木を構築する経路制御プロトコルも提案し，バッテリ交換を要する中継ノード数が少ない配送木を自律的に構築する．提案手法により，バッテリ交換コストを低減させた長期運用に耐える現実的な無線センサネットワークを実現する．To make wireless sensor networks (WSNs) work effectively as a social infrastructure in our life, it is desirable that WSNs built once work more than 10-years long with practical maintenance cost. However, current WSN technology cannot achieve it as long as each sensor node is driven by a general AA or a lithium button battery. Thus, we need to replace batteries periodically, where it is expected to reduce the replacing cost to a practical level. In this paper, we improve a receiver initiated MAC protocol called RC-MAC to make possible to maintain a sensor network for 10-years long with practical cost. In the proposed method, based on the discovery that leaf nodes in the delivery tree require to receive no data frame, we extend RC-MAC to prolong the lifetime of the leaf nodes to more than 10 years. モバイルアドホックネットワーク（MANET）は，モバイル端末を用いた無線マルチホップネットワーク構築技術として盛んに研究されている．しかし，通信が局所集中すると，深刻な輻輳が発生し，通信性能が低下することが一つの課題である．通信性能を向上するためには，輻輳領域を適応的に迂回するマルチパスルーティングが有効である．しかしながら，OLSR に代表されるプロアクティブ型ルーティングプロトコルでは，輻輳領域を柔軟に迂回できる予備経路の構築は，まだ実現されていない．そこで著者らはこれまでに，OLSR を拡張して追加の経路表を一枚加えることで，輻輳が検知されると，推定される輻輳領域を避けるようにパケットを迂回させるマルチパスルーティング法を提案した．しかし，ネットワークトポロジによっては，一枚の追加経路表では適切な迂回路をうまく構築できない場合があり，通信性能の向上には限界があった．そこで本研究では，追加の経路表をもう一枚加え，二枚の追加経路表を柔軟に切り替えることにより，この問題を軽減し，より効率的な通信を実現するマルチパスルーティング法を提案する．

To improve reliability of IP networks against link/node failure, several IP fast reroute schemes have been proposed so far. They proactively compute backup paths and activate them when failure occurs to prevent packets from losing at the failure link/node. However, it is known that network performance considerably degrades in the failure state of IP fast reroute schemes, because congestion hot spots often appear near the failure link/node. In this paper, we propose a reactive load balancing method that can be applied to the major IP fast reroute schemes that covers single failure. Our scheme works when an IP fast reroute scheme is activating its backup paths, and reduces the degradation of network performance due to failure. Several load balancing techniques for IP routing scheme have appeared in the literature. However, they require optimization process to compute optimal paths to meet traffic demand so that it requires a mechanism to measure traffic demand and to share them among all routes in order to follow dynamics of traffic. It naturally results in communication overhead and losing sensitivity to follow traffic dynamics. In this paper, we investigate a load balancing mechanism from another approach, i.e., based on IP fast reroute mechanisms. The main idea is simply to forward packets into detour paths supplied by IP fast reroute mechanisms only when packets meet congestion. This strategy enables us to use vacant resources adaptively as soon as they are required to avoid and dissolve the congestion. MANETにおいては電波干渉等により無線リンクが容易に不安定になるため,無線リンクの品質が大きく変動する前提で高信頼な通信を実現することは重要課題の一つである.アプローチの一つとして,マルチパスルーティングが挙げられる.マルチパスルーティングは,最短路だけでなく複数の経路を用いてパケットを転送することにより,通信の信頼性を向上する.例えば,送信元から宛先までの複数経路を同時に用いて負荷分散を行う,或いは,次ホップリンクが使用できない時に,予め計算された予備経路を用いて即時に通信を継続することが可能である.これまでに数多くのマルチパスルーティング法が提案されているが,そのほとんどはリアクティブ型経路制御法に基づいている.その一方で,リンク状態型の経路制御法では,ネットワーク全体のトポロジ情報が利用できるためより柔軟な経路制御が可能であると考えられるが,リンク状態型の経路制御法に基づいたマルチパスルーティングは少ない.本稿では,リンク状態型の経路制御法OLSRにおいてマルチパスルーティングを実現する方法について議論する.また,有線ネットワークにおいて活発に研究されている耐故障化技術であるIP Fast Reroute法のOLSRへの適用を試みたので,その結果を報告する.

One of the approaches to this end, many multi-path routing schemes have been proposed so far. In these multipath routing proposals, they use multiple paths rather than the single shortest path to improve the reliability of communication, e.g., some of them use multiple paths between a pair of source and destination nodes to distribute traffic among them, or some others use a pre-computed alternative path when the next-hop link fails. However, most of the multi-path proposals appeared in the past are based on reactive distance-vector routing schemes, rather than proactive link-state schemes. There is a few study of multi-path routing that is based on proactive link-state schemes, although computing more efficient multi-paths seems to be possible by making use of network topology information. In this article, we discuss the methodology to realize multi-path routing over proactive link-state routing protocol OLSR. Further we report our attempt that implement and test a multi-path routing over OLSR.

In this study, we propose a new method to predict three-way interactions among proteins based on correlation coefficient of protein expression profiles. Although three-way interactions have not been studied well, this kind of interactions are important to understand the system of life. Previous studies reported the three-way interactions that based on switching mechanisms, in which a property or an expression level of a protein switches the mechanism of interactions between other two proteins. In this paper, we proposed a new method to predict three-way interactions based on the model in which A and B work together to effect on the expression level of C. We present the algorithm to predict the combinations of three proteins that have the three-way interaction, and evaluate it using our real proteome data.

Recently, many studies appear on WMNs (Wireles Mesh Networks), in which multi-hop communications are performed among stationary nodes via wireless links. In WMNs, due to using wireless medium, communication quality of links significantly changes as time passes. To overcome this fluctuation, several dynamic link metrics have been proposed that represent the quality of links as link metrics so that the shortest paths avoid low-quality links. However, because link metrics are designed to follow relatively slow metric changes, it is not sufficient for real network to supply stable communications. In this study, we propose a method that builds a WMN in multichannel environment and switches the forwarding links synamically in case of congestion to improve throughput and stability of communications. We evaluate the proposed method through simulation experiments.

近年，無線端末同士をメッシュ状に接続し，マルチホップ通信を行う無線メッシュネットワークの研究が活発に行われている．無線メッシュネットワークは，通信媒体として電波を使用するため，無線リンクの通信品質の変動が著しく，リンクが切断する場合もあり得る．そのため，通信品質をリンクメトリックとして数値化し，メトリックの合計値が最小となるよう経路制御を行うことで通信品質の変動に対応する動的メトリックが提案されている．しかし，無線リンクの通信品質の変動は非常に大きいため，比較的ゆるやかな変動への対応を意図したリンクメトリックのみでは十分に追従することができない．そこで本研究では，急激なリンクの通信品質の変動に対応するために，無線メッシュネットワークをマルチチャンネル化し，リンクの輻輳時に瞬時に転送リンクを切り替える手法を提案する．これにより，動的メトリックでは対応できない急激な通信品質の変化に対しても，安定した通信を継続することが可能になり，通信のスループットと安定性が大幅に向上した．提案手法の性能をシミュレーション実験によって評価した．Recently, many studies appear on WMNs(Wireless Mesh Networks), in which multi-hop communications are performed among stationary nodes via wireless links. 本研究では，小学校低学年を対象に自発的かつ継続的に取り組ませることにより，社会生活で必要な習慣づけを支援する道徳教育支援システムを構築する．我々は児童の自発的な継続支援のために，児童がグループ単位で競争し，日々の達成度に応じたご褒美となる動植物の画像を得られる仕組みを用いてシステムを設計・開発した．そして，本システムを評価するための予備実験として，児童が本システムを正しく理解し利用できるのか，教員の負担はどの程度あるのかを評価するために，小学校へ試験的な導入実験を行った．その結果，児童は本システムの操作を正しく理解したが，教員はクラスの児童全体で目標を継続的に取り組むための話し合いの時間などを設けていたなど、運用にあたって所要時間がかかることが負担に成り得ることがわかった．In this study, we developed a system to support moral education for lower-grade schoolchildren in order that they come to continue learning basic moral by themselves. We designed the system in which schoolchildren have their own daily goals and input their achievement result every day in groups. We expect the effect of competition and cooperation in groups and also expect the feeling of achievement to motivate the continuous learning in our system. To evaluate our system, we conducted preliminary experiment in a primary school. As a result, children understood the operation of our system and the system works well. However, teachers felt a little load increased when they do education with this system.

本研究では，タンパク質や遺伝子発現量データを用いて，タンパク質間または遺伝子間の相互作用を推定するデータマイニング手法を提案する．提案手法では，発現している複数タンパク質の組合せが別のタンパク質の発現量に影響する相互作用モデルを想定し，条件付き確率を用いて，3 つのタンパク質が集まったときに初めて現れる組合せ的な相互作用が推定されるタンパク質の組合せを抽出する．提案手法を実際のタンパク質発現量データに適用し，統計的な分布に基づいて提案手法の有効性を検討する．This paper proposes a data mining method for predicting the interaction between three proteins (or genes) from protein (or gene) expression data. We assume the model that the total effect of three proteins A and B on C is far larger than the sole effects between two proteins A-C and B-C. In this method, we retrieve the combinations of three proteins (or genes) including the combinatorial effect using the conditional probability. We apply this method to real protein expression data, and examine the effectiveness of this method based on statistical distribution.

生命現象の仕組みを理解する方法の一つとして，タンパク質の相互作用の解析が盛んに行われている．しかし，発現量データを用いた 3 つ以上のタンパク質の複合的相互作用の推定は難しく，発展が望まれる研究課題の一つとなっている．本研究では，複数タンパク質が構成するタンパク質の複合体が別のタンパク質の発現量に影響する相互作用モデルに基づいて，相関係数を用いて，3 つのタンパク質が集まったときに初めて現れる相乗的な相互作用が推定されるタンパク質の組合せを抽出する手法を提案する．提案手法を実際のタンパク質発現量データに適用し，統計的な分布に基づいて提案手法の有効性を検討する．The interaction of proteins is actively analyzed as one of the methods of understanding the mechanism of the living creatures. However, prediction of combined interaction of three or more proteins that use the expression data is one of the research topics which is considered difficult. In this paper, we propose the technique for extracting the combination of the protein to which the interaction is predicted by using the correlation coefficient, and the technique based on the interaction model that the complex composed of two or more proteins influences the expression data of another protein. We evaluate the proposed method with real protein expression data and gine the result it based on statistical distribution.

A Multi-path Load Balancing Method using SBR Mechanisms for Link-state Routing

本研究では、リンク状態型経路制御プロトコルを用いた IP ネットワークにおける動的な輻輳緩和手法を提案する。最短路ルーティングを行う場合には、最短路が特定のリンクに集中しやすく、そのため局所的に輻輳が発生しやすい。このため筆者らは、リンク故障時に即時に迂回路を利用してパケットを救出する IP Fast Reroute 方式の一つ SBR を応用して、輻輳リンクのトラフィックを局所的に分散させることで輻輳を緩和する負荷分散方式を提案したが、1 パケットは 1 回までしか迂回を許されなかったため、性能が限定されていた。本稿では、複数回の迂回を許すように拡張した手法を提案し評価を行ったのでこれを報告する。In this paper, we present a dynamic load balancing method for networks which deploy link-state routing. In shortest -path routing, traffic tend to be concentrated into particular links which are used by many shortest paths. Thus authors proposed a load balancing method using SBR mechanism, which is one of the IP Fast Reroute solution, but it bypass a packet only once and it is a limitation of this proposition. In this paper, we extend it to be capable of more than two bypasses.

In this paper, we propose a data mining technique to retrieve combinatorial interactions of proteins from expression data of proteins. In our proposal, we suppose the interaction model that two or more proteins are unified into one complex protein and it acts on another protein, and we predict the interaction using correlation coefficient. Our method has a feature that we can apply it even if the number of available expression samples is not so large, compared with other existing methods such as Bayesian networks. We evaluate our method with real protein expression data and report about it.

It is known that the communication quality of wireless links are easy to change so that every connection is expected to use stable links in wireless ad hoc networks. In this paper, from the idea that the stability of a link is mesured by its continuous active duration, we propose a method to lead computed paths into stable links by modifying link costs continuously in wireless ad hoc networks. In changing link costs, the two problems called "routing loops" and "route oscillation" may occur. We also show that the proposed method avoids those problems by giving theoretical analyses and simulation results.

無線通信網では、リンク品質の変動があるため、常に安定リンクを用いて通信することが望まれる。本稿では、リンクの安定度はそのリンクの通信継続時間で表されると考え、これに応じて動的にリンクコストを変動させることで、安定リンクを優先的に利用する経路制御方式を提案する。動的なコスト変更に際しては、経路ループ問題、及び経路反復問題を生じる。本稿ではこれらの問題に対する解決手法を提案し、その効果の検証を行った。It is known that the communication quality of wireless links are easy to change so that every connection is expected to use stable links in wireless ad hoc networks. A New Interactive Graph-based Visualization Method for Large-scale Clustering Analyses

This paper presents a new interactive graph-based visualization method for large-scale clustering analyses. Generally in graph-based visualization, the number of nodes and links seriously increases as the size of data becomes large, which results in overcrowded graphs with lots of nodes and links. To avoid the problem, we propose a new method which keeps the number of nodes and links while changing view levels between general view to see highly clustered nodes and the detailed view to see each element of data. The novel feature of our method is that we can explore the whole clustering result with our real-time operations in our viewer. To realize such interactive viewer, we present data structure and algorithms to make real-time changes of graph shape within a short time not to have users feel any stress. We also implement such viewer and make evaluation about user operations.

In this paper, we introduce a system to support nursing diabetic people which is developed by Wakayama University and Wakayama Rousai Hospital. In our system, patients send the diabetic self-treatment data such as meal, exercise, taking medicines and insulin, using mobile phones. Then nurses in the hospital check the data and if they found something wrong, they can give some advice to the patients. We designed the system to enable nurses to understand patients' state as well as not to take patients' labor to send data. In this paper, we explain about the system and report our attempts to use the system.

In the current Internet, routers use only one routing table that is computed automatically based on the link costs configured by network administrators. However, this mechanism prevents us from making a well-balanced use of network resources, because packets tend to pass several particular links under the shortest-path based routing environment. In this paper, we expand a link-state type IGP routing protocol with a secondary routing table so that each router have two disjoint paths for every destination. By using those two paths, each router can make a good selection of packet forwarding paths based on the locally measured traffic load information. We implemented our proposed method on ns-2, and report the simulation results.

On Backup-Tables for Shortest-Path Routing

For a shortest-path routing based network, we construct a secondary routing table (backup-table) on each vertex (router) in order to recover any one edge (link) failure without packet loss. In our model, an edge failure is recovered on the vertex which firstly find the edge failure by switching its routing tables momentarily. We prove that there is a set of backup-tables which can recover any one edge failure if the network is represented by a 2-edge-connected symmetric graph. Further, we give a linear-time algorithm for the problem of calculating backup-tables in the case that all edges have the same length.

Avoiding Routing Loops on the Internet

Suppose that some particular link in the Internet is currently congested. Then a natural idea is to try to make packets bypass that link. This can be done by increasing the cost of that link intentionally, say from a_1 to a_2, since the Internet uses the shortest-path routing. Unfortunately, however, this often causes temporary loops for packet traveling, called routing loops. In this paper, we show that routing loops can be avoided by increasing the cost of the link not directly from a_1 to a_2 but through an intermediate value, a_3, i.e., from a_1 to a_3 and then to a_2. We may need several (more than one) intermediate values. We show that in such a occasion, the greedy strategy, namely raising the cost as much as possible in each step, is optimal.

We propose a new framework for stateless auto-configuration of IPv6 site-local addresses with &ldquo;zero configuration.&rdquo; When a router is connected to a link as the first router, it becomes the link leader and generates an address prefix with randomly generated 16-bit subnet ID for the segment. In order to assure the uniqueness of the prefix addresses, we show a protocol, which is an extension of RIPng, for detecting prefixes conflicts. When a conflict is detected, it is notified to its segment leader immediately. The segment leader generates a new prefix and renumber to new one via IPv6 address renumbering scheme. And, exploiting the IPv6 feature that multiple addresses can coexist on an interface, we realize such a routing algorithm that can protect the connections using old addresses for a fixed time.
