推薦システムに関する研究の多くは推薦精度を評価指標としている．一方で，意外性などを考慮した指標であるセレンディピティが提案されている．我々もセレンディピティを向上させるために複数ジャンルを横断する作品推薦システムを提案した．その際，ジャンルの偏りを減少させるため「ジャンル依存度」という指標を定義し，導入した．この手法はセレンディピティを向上させられた一方で，偶発的な作品の発見が不足していた．これに対し本研究は，間接的に関連する作品の推薦によって偶発的な作品の発見を支援する．特徴語の関連性から類似作品ネットワークを構築し，任意の 2 作品間の最短経路上に存在する作品をユーザに推薦した．結果として，提案手法は比較手法よりもセレンディピティが有意に向上した．また，提案手法を導入した推薦システムはユーザにとって未知の作品を多く推薦することができた．

遠隔コミュニケーションにおける対話相手の心拍の可視化による心理的負荷の軽減

遠隔コミュニケーションでは，映像をやり取りしていても相手の気持がわかりにくく不安を感じることが多い．そこで本研究では，遠隔コミュニケーションにおいて，対話相手の気持ちの分かりにくさから生じる心理的負荷を，スマートデバイスより得られる心拍数の指標を用いて軽減させることを試みる．心拍数の指標にはポアンカレプロットから得られる面積と距離を採用し，緊張状態やリラックスの状態を判別する．この判別結果を対話相手にイラストの形で共有する．提案システムと，心拍の数値のみを共有するシステムによる比較実験を行った．その結果，提案システムによる内面状態の共有により，話題や話し方を変えるなどの変化が見られ，対話の満足感が向上し，不安感が軽減した可能性があることがわかった．

本研究では，迷いやすい人を対象とし，街歩き観光において，利用者に景色を見る余裕を与えながら，目的地まで街歩きできるナビゲーションシステムを提案する．使用時に片手が塞がらずに済むスマートウォッチを用い，2 種類の振動を活用し，直感的に内容把握可能なナビゲーション情報を利用者に提供する．迷いやすい人が提案システムの利用により，画面注視回数が減少し，周りの景色等をよく眺めながら，街歩きできたかを検証する．実験の結果，画面注視時間や注視回数に有意な差は見られなかったが，提案システムにおいて，街歩き終了後における街歩き中に見た景色や建物の記憶が残っていることが明らかになった．また，提案システムで用いた目的地へ順調に進んでいる場合の振動は，利用者の判断や行動に対する貢献度が高く，目的地へ順調に進んでいる場合と目的地から離れている場合の 2 種類の振動は，迷いやすい人に安心感を与えていることが明らかになった．

In this article, we propose a chat system that uses tags to help users resume past conversations. In online chat, it is often difficult to continue conversations regarding issues that were discussed in the past because the relevant parties may have forgotten the contents of the conversation. Our proposed chat system, called "Tag chat," helps users to remember past conversations by focusing on the words in each topic to provide information on the past topic. The results of three experiments using the proposed system and a comparison system indicate that viewing tags helps users to recall topics more specifically than re-reading chat logs and does not impose a burden on users.

ネットワークを通じて個人自らが観光地の情報を容易に調べられるようになった．しかし，ウェブ上に存在する多数の情報の中から，特定の場所や状況に関する情報を選び取ることは難しい．そこで本研究では，情報投稿時の状況が反映されやすい短文投稿サイトへの投稿，ツイートに着目し，旅行者の情報を視覚的に共有できるシステムを開発する．ツイート投稿時に選択した交通状況，景色などのカテゴリに応じて，位置情報をもとにシンボルが地図上に配置される．閲覧者はカテゴリや位置の絞り込み，投稿者へのリプライにより情報を検索取得することができる．投稿・閲覧の両面からシステムの操作性や情報共有について評価したところ，カテゴリ分けにより情報が得やすくなったとの評価を得た．

オンラインゲームにおいて「文字，音声，画像」がコミュニケーションの手段として相手に伝達されている．プレイヤーは相手に関する情報がないと対戦相手が存在しているにも関わらず，コンピュータを相手にしているように感じる．一方，人間らしい情報を伝達するなど対戦相手がいるという実感が持てるほど，面白いという評価につながる．そこで，心拍を入力，振動モータを出力とした心拍伝達システムの開発を提案する．本研究の目的は，オンラインゲームのコミュニケーションの幅を広げ，面白さを向上させることである．また，本システムを使用した評価実験を行った．その結果，モータの振動が弱く，ゲームに集中すると振動を感じ取れないことが分かった．

現在，個人やグループにおいて数多くのRPGが制作されている．個人やグループといった少人数でのRPG制作におけるシナリオライターの役割とは，シナリオを制作するだけにとどまらず，それ以外にもシステムの制作など数多くの作業にたずさわらなければならない場合がある．その中で，シナリオの制作は非常に負担となる作業である．そこで，本研究ではシナリオ作成者の負担を軽減するため，ストーリーの印象を入力することで，その印象に沿ったRPGのプロットを自動生成し，また，シナリオ作成の支援を行うシステム「RPGプロットメイカー」の開発を行う．

通信技術の発達によってオンラインゲームが主流になってきた．オンラインゲーム内では他のプレイヤーとコミュニケーションを取る場面が多く，チャットやアイコン機能，ジェスチャー機能がよく用いられる．操作の忙しいゲームにおいては，チャットでは定型文を用いることが多く，アイコン機能やジェスチャー機能と同様，ゲーム内で用意されたものでしか表現ができない．そこで本研究では，シンプルな信号音，波紋，キャラクターの移動という三つの要素をプレイヤーが自由に組み合わせることで，様々な表現が可能なコミュニケーション機能を検討する．予備実験の結果，細かい違いを見分けるのは難しいが，ある程度相手に伝わることがわかった．

タグを利用した過去の話題の再開を支援するチャットシステム

チャット等の非対面コミュニケーションにおいて，複数の話題が混ざる，話が中断するなどしたために，どこまで話を進めたかを忘れ，過去の話題について会話を始めづらいことがある．そこで，チャットログへのタグ付けにより過去の話題の再開を手助けするシステムを提案する．チャット時にその話題で使われた名詞をもとにログにタグ付けを行い，チャット再開時に過去の話題のタグを表示する．システムを利用した実験を複数回実施した結果，タグの表示は過去の会話を思い出すのに有用であるが，話題の再開については個人差によるところが大きいことが分かった．

現状のSNSでは，新たな交友関係を求めても実際に交流を持ちたいと思われるユーザに関する情報は得られにくい．そこで本研究では，Web上に投稿された短文に含まれる，趣味や興味関心などの情報に基づいて，話題を共有できるユーザを推薦し，新たな繋がりの構築を支援するシステムを提案する．大小様々なグループの作成を行い，多様な人間関係を混在させること無くコミュニケーションを図ることを可能とする．そのために，グループごとに対象を選んで，自身の情報公開とメッセージの表示・非表示を選択することができる機能を実装する．運用実験により，投稿内容と合致したユーザの推薦，および，新たなつながりの構築を支援出来るかを検討する．

Development and Application of Wadaman-Web using Database System for Idea Generation Support

In recent years, it has been possible to collect a huge amount of data which the internet of things generates and store the data at the cloud computing on the internet. It is conceivable that we use the knowledge, which get from the date, or are such as rules of organization or individual experiences, for the improvement of daily duties. However, the problems are not solved or insufficiently solved even if these knowledge are used, it is necessary to discover or devise solutions newly. At that time, it is thought that these knowledge are reused for new idea generation. Therefore we developed Wadaman-Web which is a database system for idea generation support, in order to store the knowledge or raise the problems, we conducted experiments of idea generation in cooperation with idea generation support system. The results show that the past knowledge stored in the database of Wadaman-Web are useful information for idea generation and become the hint of study. However, only the past knowledge is still insufficiency for idea generation. It is necessary to devise solutions for idea generation before Wadaman-Web cooperate with an idea generation support system. In this paper, we clarify problems and issues with the idea generation model when moving from Wadaman-Web to idea generation support system, and consider the solution.

In this article, we propose an idea generation support system for scarce knowledge people. In brainstorming carried out in less knowledge people such as college students, sometimes they cannot generate a diversity of idea because of the lack of experience or bias in knowledge. The proposed system provides hint words associated with a theme so that the hint words encourage idea generation. The system previously collects web texts related to the theme and classifies words into some clusters based on the degree of word co-occurrence so that the system makes hint database. The system provide hints based on the hint database by request from users. We had implemented this system and had performed one experiment for the theme "seeking employment (prospects)". From the result of the experiment, it is cleared that the number of idea increased and the proposed system may promote a variety of ideas. In this paper, we show a part of the result of a experiment using other hint database " Ideal marriage partner" and comparison the questionnaire results. (C) 2015 The Authors. In this paper, we propose a system that enables smooth communication by online management of interpersonal relations in community units such as those based on hobbies, clubs, and university classes. Communication without various intermingling interpersonal relationships is enabled by making groups in community units of various sizes and forms. It is also possible for each group to set up its own username and profile, and display its own information and exchange messages with a select audience. Through a six-day usage experiment, the participants' ability to retain their own characteristics and to comment freely and communicate smoothly was verified. As a result, we concluded that this system could be used for communicating without mixing multiple non-related interpersonal relationships by setting up groups. (C) 2015 The Authors. Tag-based Chat Support System to Remind Users of Contents of Past Conversations

In this article, we propose a chat system that helps users remember and resume past conversations by using tags. In computer-mediated communication such as online chat, it is often difficult in communication to continue conversations regarding issues that have been discussed in the past because they may have forgotten the contents of the issue. Our system adds tags for each chat logs based on words that were used in the chat and displays the tags when users restart the interrupted chat. テンプレートによる入力を特徴とした発想一貫支援システムの開発

ICT技術の発展により，ネットワークやモバイル機器の普及が進んでいる．そのため，いつでもどこでも会議を行うことが可能となり，膨大なデータやアイデアといった情報を共有することができるようになった．その際，共有される情報の整理には発想法が有効である．複数人で発想法を実施する場合，各人の出すアイデアの意味や意図，つまり情報が他人により正確に伝わることが成功への一つの鍵となる．そこで，他人にも理解しやすいアイデア出しの一助となるテンプレートによる入力機能を持つ発想一貫支援システムを考案した．実験の結果から，テンプレートによる入力では自由記述入力に比べアイデア数は少なくなったが，アイデアの評価は高くなった．

Ther:com: A Rich Communication Support System Using Thermal Stimulation and Emotional Icons

In this study we aim to support communications between players using a thermal stimulus. We propose a temperature perception interface named "ThermoActor" and a communication support system named "Ther:com" using expression icons. The results of experiments show that players feel "Existence of the partner close" and "There is a sense facing a human being" using "ThermoActor". ThermoActor also improves entertainment characteristics like"please" and "rising".

In this research, we propose a chat system that makes it easy to convey nonverbal information by adopting the Japanese Manga style. Characters in the chat systems play roles as agents of users to express the users' emotional states. However, even if whatever the characters have faces and aspects, users are required to select the appropriate emotion of the character not to give an unexpected impression from the illustrations. It is very troublesome for users to choose manually various emotions at each message during their chat. So we focus on the the Japanese Manga style and make an attempt to reduce users' burdens.

We have developed a system, which shares feeling for fighting games that uses pressure sensors. The system transforms intuitive input into emotional icons. The resonance function that changes the sizes of icons by getting interactions between players was also implemented. The function may strengthen a connected sense more with partners. The results of experiments shows that the pressure sensor was pushed once in about 16 seconds, and feelings icons of "joy" "annoyed" and "playing a joke" was used much order. As for the resonance function, 2.4 times per the game worked. Questionnaire results suggested that feelings came with the remote partner and the sense that faced a human being was raised when they used this system.

現地から取材で情報を収集した後に会議室で会議を実施する手法では，現地の取材から会議室での会議までの間に，ロケーション間の移動や参加者の調整などを行わなければならない．発想法の一つである KJ 法を取り入れた発想支援グループウェア GUNGEN-SPIRALⅡを用い，現地で会議を実施することでこれらの時間を短縮した．また現地での会議が可能になったことにより更に効率化を図るため，取材をしながら会議中にラベル作成を実施可能にした GUNGEN-Web を開発し現地で使用できることを示した．If meetings are held in conference rooms after the collection of information outside of a laboratory or workplace setting, we need to move between the locations and adjust the participants. We reduced the duration of the times by holding meetings at the reporting location with using GUNGEN-SPIRAL II, which is an idea generation support system and incorporated KJ method. It is possible to hold meetings at reporting locations, so we further improve the efficiency of meetings. We developed GUNGEN-Web, which can make labels on meetings and collect information at the same time, and it is able to use GUNGEN-Web at reporting locations.

In this article, we propose a Manga-style chat system to transmit nonverbal information smoothly and visually based on techniques of Japanese comics. A character, pictographs, emoticons or smileys provide much information to viewers through their shapes or arrangements, so senders of messages are required to select the appropriate emotion not to give an unexpected impression from them. It is very troublesome for users to choose manually various emotions at each message during their chat. We aim to reduce users' burdens and to provide an intuitive interface by adopting Japanese Manga-style to chat system. As a result of a comparison experiment with an existing chat system, it revealed that users could transmit nonverbal information in the same level and users had hardly any trouble in exchanging messages meanwhile our system can minimize the burden on choosing the emotions. We have developed a content rating system based on the evaluations of two or more audiences. The audiences watch the content using this system, and they input emoticons using a pressure sensor if they feel that the content is interesting. The system displays these emoticons on a chat screen, and records them in a log. We applied this system to a Japanese form of comic dialogue, and performed a series of experiments. The comic dialogue involves two people, one in the role of "boke," and the other as "tsukkomi." We found that the appearance of emoticons and the laughter recorded in the content do not necessarily occur at the same time.

We propose RANTORE, a strategic exertainment (exercise + entertainment) system that uses outdoor Global Positioning System (GPS) location information to promote exercise. Similar to a treasure hunt, the RANTORE system encourages players to move around an outdoor area to collect virtual treasures and coordinate with other players in a fun, outdoor activity. Our evaluation experiments reveal that the exercise was not strenuous, but the game did promote exercise. In addition, the entertainment aspects and continuity of the exercise were evaluated to be high, even when players played the game several times, because the game kept them engaged. 近年，組織における知識・ノウハウ活用の重要性が高まっている．限られた時間・人的稼働の制約のもとで，発想法を実施する際の課題と要件を整理し，複数のマルチタッチ対応タブレット端末を用いたユビキタス発想支援システム G-Pad を開発し，実験評価を行った．Recently the importance of using know-how in the organization as their core competency is on the increase. We discussed supporting creativity, such as KJ method, under restriction of time and human resources. We discussed the problem and the requirement based on human resources, time and workspace, and proposed and evaluated the practical use of multiple multi-touch tablet gadgets as ubiquitous creativity support system: G-Pad.

We propose a support system to create opportunities of communication in community of Japanese college students using Android phones and SNS. It is difficult to get to know a community member and to find an opportunity of communication with the member who is not a close friend even if he/she belongs to the same community. In our system, users register their interests freely in the form of tags and the system presents a list of the tags on the displays of their Android phones so as to trigger communication with each others. In addition, the users can always easily understand what a community member on campus takes interest in, by viewing the information of only log-on users displayed on the users' Android phones. As a result of an experiment, it revealed that displaying a list of the log-on users' information improved the motivation to try to find an opportunity of communication willingly. Furthermore, the form of tags was effective for the person who had high motivation for communication.

We have developed GUNGEN-SPIRAL II, which is a system that supports the process of idea generation consistently. That is, the system supports the steps of idea collection, idea sharing, and idea generation. The system is a Web-based system. We performed experiments on the idea generation step using five kinds of computers. The results of the experiments suggested that even on the small screen of a smartphone used with an appropriate communication method, we could carry out the idea generation method well, with the exception of the operation of text input.

In this article, we propose a support system to create and share a photograph-based traveler's diary. People have a demand for sharing traveler's diaries with photographs and comments to plan their trips or to enjoy reading the travel reports. Travelers can create traveler's diaries by hand-writing and hand-drawing on photographs which they took at a tourist spot using our system. The diary is shared via SNS site. The other users can browse the diary and over-draw some comments or illustrations on it. We performed an experiment in Japan and China to verify availability of our system. As a result, we confirmed that this system promoted additional over-drawing on a traveler's diary and exchange of travel information via SNS site. © 2013 IEEE.

In this article, we propose a system to communicate situation information of users and to exchange a message with nonverbal information for remote communication. People want to know a condition and a situation of a communication partner who stays at a remote location, such as a lover, a child and a parent who lives alone. The previous works on a support system for remote communication focused on awareness or synchronicity and the systems require extra devices. Therefore, we adopt a mobile phone as a device to support smooth remote communication and we develop a system exchanging easily users' situation information with nonverbal expressions that users can understand the contents intuitively. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

発想法支援システムが数々開発されている．我々は島名の入力文字数が短い時に警告文を出す KJ 法支援システム GUNGEN-TOUCH II を開発した．これは発想の質の向上を目指したものである．AHP を応用して島名の評価を行った．その結果，本機能を付加したシステムの方が，平均の島名の文字数が多くなり，付加していないシステムと比べて島名の評価は有意差がある高い結果となった．A lot of idea generation support system has been developed. We have developed a KJ method support system, which presents a warning sentence when the numbers of characters about names of islands is too short. This is because we aimed at the improvement of the quality of the idea generation. We evaluate the names of islands by using modified AHP. The results of the experiments show that the evaluation of the name of islands in the new system (GUNGEN-TOUCH II) is high significantly.

Remote Kenken: A networked real hopping game based on hopscotch

An exertainment support system called Remote Kenken is proposed in this paper. The game resembles hopscotch. Pressure sensors are used to determine the position of the feet of a player and judge the accuracy of the steps during jumping. Victory or defeat is decided by the accuracy of the step and time required. The support system is networked to a server to allow the game to be played remotely by more than one player. Experiments were performed with players located in different rooms playing the game simultaneously. The test results suggest that the subjects could enjoy the game as an exercise and entertainment. The system also includes video and audio equipment for communication and awareness of the steps. © 2011 IEEE.

We have developed a pictograph chat communicator for distant places, named Pictograph Chat Communicator IV. The system has an awareness function, an example sentence indication function, a pictograph quotation function, and a Web image search function. Experiments were carried out 9 times in Japanese and Chinese. As a result, the level of understanding is 88.2%. Though we experimented with the system in distant places, the results did not differ from those in the same room. It was supposed that pictograph communication was sufficient for ice-breaking communication between distant places. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

モバイル端末で圧力センサを補助的に使用することにより，選択的な入力を効率的に行えるインタフェースを考案した．これを，絵文字を使ってコミュニケーションするためのツールである，絵文字チャットコミュニケータの絵文字入力に適用した．その結果，従来の GUI による選択のみで絵文字を入力するよりも，本入力インタフェースにより絵文字を選択する方が，操作時間が短縮でき，操作性が改善されることがわかった．We developed the efficient input method of mobile devices using pressure sensor supplementary to select from some candidates. We applied this input method to select pictograph in communication application using pictograph, named "Pictograph Chat Communicator". From the results of the experiments, we found that our input method could make the selection of pictograph more speedy and usable than traditional GUI input method.

Effect of an Intuitional Pictogram Comment Function and an Emotional Sharing Function for a Video Sharing Web System

Video sharing websites have spread throughout the world. There are logical comments and emotional comments for video sharing website. If an input process is complex and difficult, emotional comments will be difficult to submit. We have developed a video sharing system named as "Onion", which have a text comment function and a pictogram comment function. The system has an emotional comment input function for a pictogram comment function and an emotional sharing function for viewers. The emotional comment input function consists of a scroll wheel of a mouse and pictograms. We have experimented using the system. The results of experiment, we got 738 views, 1,806 pictograph comments and 108 text comments on experiment. The ratio of the text comment is the same as before and the ratio of the pictogram is large. We confirmed the utility of the system.

小型 PC 上で絵文字のみでチャットを行う，絵文字チャットコミュニケータを開発し，異なる母国語を持つ人同士のコミュニケーションの支援に適用してきた．本システムは 550 個の絵文字と絵文字を探しやすくするための履歴機能等を持つ．これまで海外 4 ヶ所 （米国 （2 ヶ所），ベトナム，ポルトガル） で適用実験をおこなった．これらの実験から得られた日本人と外国人の実験結果を比較する．We had developed a pictograph chat communicator on PCs. The system used 550 pictographs to communicate each other. We added the history function to the system as a supporting function. The system had been applied to the communication between the people of the different language outside of Japan four times (U.S.A (two times), Vietnam and Portugal). We compare the results of experiments between Japanese and non-Japanese.

The Pictograph Chat Communicator III is a modified version of the conventional system, where pictograph selection and the taxonomy of pictographs were taken a closer look. We added new pictographs (subjects, verbs, adjectives, 5W1H, symbols, and alphabets) and deleted unnecessary pictographs. We also changed the taxonomy of pictographs. Experiments were carried out 9 times in international conference halls of America, Vietnam, and Portugal, between people who do not share the same spoken language (or native language). As a result, the level of understanding is 91.1%. We supposed that pictograph communication was enough in the ice-breaking communications.

In this article; we at the relationships between nonverbal expressions and atmospheres during face-to-face dialogue by persons aiming to apply to an information character. Information characters provide information to viewers through their dialogue to get a better understanding. the way which information is shown through an embodied characters' dialogue is adopted; the characters have the faces and bodies in order to be "embodied", so, the information provider must care about meanings of a state of nonverbal expressions displayed by the embodied characters. People also display and exchange nonverbal expressions including eye-gazes; noddings, and facial expressions in daily conversation. Nonverbal expressions convey various kinds of information that is essential to make our face-to-face communication successful. In the previous work on social psychology, it is known that there are interdependences among nonverbal expressions between those from different persons in conversation with each other. We investigate dialogue scenes of TV shows to convey information; with a goal of applying above knowledges to a dialogue between embodied characters, which provide information to risers.

Web ベース発想一貫支援システム GUNGEN-SPIRAL II を開発した．本システムはアイデアの収集および共有，発想法に至るまで知の循環を支援するものである．適用実験の結果，メールによるアイデアの登録は使いやすく，発想法においては，共有画面と音声のみのコミュニケーションでも十分に作業が行えることがわかった．また，iPhone でも従属的な形で発想法に参加できることがわかった．We have developed the GUNGEN-SPIRAL II, which system supports the process of idea generation consistently. That is, the system supports the idea collection step, idea sharing step, and the idea generation step. The results of an experiment suggested that the input method by the mail was easy to use and the communication method by the shared screen and Skype were efficiently in the idea generation step. The iPhone was effective for the dependent participation of the idea generation.

海外を旅行する日本人，また日本を旅行する外国人が増加し，外国人とコミュニケーションをとる機会が増えた．絵文字の解釈はほぼ世界共通である．そこで観光案内所での利用を想定し，簡単に写真を絵文字として追加でき，テーブルトップインタフェースを用いて操作が容易な対面型絵文字チャットシステムを開発した．実験の結果，写真を絵文字として使うとチャット内容の理解度が向上する傾向にあった．The Japanese who traveled in the foreign countries or the foreigners who traveled in Japan increased, and opportunities to regard communication as a foreigner increased. The interpretation of the pictograph is approximately common through the world. We have developed a meeting type pictograph chat system that we assume to use at the tourist information center. The system can easily add a photograph as a pictograph, and use a table- top interface for easy operation. The understanding degree of chat contents tended to improve when we used the photograph as a pictograph.

The results of the experiments showed that 1) A sense making "hopping" is very really high comparing with a simulation software. 2) Around 40 seconds were judged to be appropriate in the play time. 3) The pulse rose after an experiment. We have developed a pictograph chat communicator, named the Pictograph Chat Communicator II. The system has been applied to the communication between the people of the different language. The Pictograph Chat Communicator II has over 500 pictographs and has a log function for searching pictographs easily. On the basis of a past application result, we changed the pictographs and it's grouping. We carried out experiments of chats outside of Japan (U.S.A). The experiments were carried out 6 times. We report the results of the experiments as below. 1) The average understanding level was 84%, which value is the same as the former system. 2) New pictographs (subject, adjective, 5W1H, the alphabet), which were added to the experiment, were used 44% of whole pictographs in chats. 3) The average of chat lines was 2.3, which value was as twice as the former system.

There have been many computerized KJ method support system, which support KJ method on computers. We had developed and applied a computerized KJ method support system, which used the Lumisight-Table. The results of the experiment indicated that the system reduced the working time and increased the numbers of remarks. But the size of working area of the system is somewhat narrow. The system seemed to be inefficient for the working of the long time and seemed to have some problem about operability. Therefore, we have developed an idea generation support system, which used direct manipulation on a tabletop interface(DiamondTouch-Table). We applied the system for experiments and evaluated it.

Development and Application of Electronic Memory Notebook to Japan and China

In this article, we propose the support system to make a traveler's diary, "Electronic Memory Notebook". This system consists of a compact terminal with a touch panel screen and a web server for SNS site. Travelers make traveler's diaries by writing and drawing on a photograph which he/she took at a tourist spot. The traveler's diary is shared via SNS web site. Furthermore the other user can browse the traveler's diary and overdraw some comments or illustrations on it. We evaluate if "Electronic Memory Notebook" can accelerate drawing up of a traveler's diary in Japan and China. As a result, the making of the traveler's diary was promoted by additional overdrawing on a traveler's diary and reading via SNS site.

Relationships between Smiley and Atmosphere during Chat with Emotional Characters

We developed a music recommendation system based on location information and additional information. But we couldn' t confirm effectiveness of location information for music recommendation. Therefore, we have experimented to confirm the effectiveness of location information again. The results of experiments suggested that there was a possibility that users were influenced by synthetical situation besides location information.

Development of Virtual Band Support System

We have developed a virtual band support system We can play favorite music and play coordinately by the system. We can also play freely I ike a "virtual guitar". The input of the system consists of a ten-key pad and a gyro mouse. The reading music with the score of the number notation is one of the characteristic of the system. We performed a comparison experiment about the interface of guitar simulators and a session experiment through the network. The results of the experiments indicated that the system was super ior to other gui tar simuIators from the viewpoint of pieasure, operation and reading score. As a result of experiment of the session, a delay occurred, but we understood that we were more pleasant than a stand alone experiment.

Development and Application of Idea Generation Support System Using Table-top Interface

KJ method is one of the famous idea generation methods in Japan. Original KJ method is performed using paper tags (ex. Post It). KJ method is also implemented on computers. The system is called the computerized KJ method support system. In the original KJ method for several participants, it is hard to read the content from the other side. In the computerized KJ method for several participants with PCs, it is hard to point the content by a figure directly. We have developed a computerized KJ method support system, which used the direction dependent table-top interface named Lumisight-Table for solving the problem. We compared performance between the Lumisight-Table system and the conventional system. The results of the experiments indicated that working time reduced from 30.8min. to 18.0min. using the Lumisight-Table system and the significant difference was existed. The numbers of remarks increased by using the Lumisight-Table system.

In Japan and other countries, pictographs have widely spread to add nuance to mails in mobile phones. We have developed a pictograph chat system, which enables communication using nothing but pictographs. We have prepared 550 pictograph symbols. The system has a history tab, which can save and reuse all pictographs used in the previous chat lines. We applied the system for communication to 2 groups of foreign students and Japanese students. We have carried out experiments 4 times. We report the results of the experiments as below. (1) The average number of chat lines was 29 lines in 30 minutes. (2) The subjects understood 83% of the chat contents. (3) The history tab is used about 24% of all selected pictographs. (4) History tab was used frequently in relation to the number of chat lines.

Tourists or businessmen who visited Japan increased in late years. The opportunity of communication have been increased between Japanese and foreigners. We have developed a pictograph chat communicator, named the Pictograph Chat Communicator II. The system will apply communication between the people of the different language. The Pictograph Chat Communicator II has over 500 pictographs and has a log function for searching pictographs easily. In this report, we describe the functions and operations of the system and its future development.

Application of The Pictograph Chat Communicator

We have developed a pictograph chat communicator, which was implemented on a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). We have performed pictograph communication experiments using the communicator in England and U.S.A. Pictograph communication uses only pictograph for communication. The twenty nine subjects in twelve countries participated in the experiment. Experiments have been performed by the people whose native languages are different, and the people whose native language are the same. The experimental results showed that every subject can get simple communication each other under limited number of pictograph condition and the people whose native languages are different evaluated the experiments high. The numbers of pictograph or the usage of pictograph is not enough for communication.

Proposal on the Recommendation Service of Music Based on User's Actual Location

In this article, we discuss the evaluation of an impression displayed by presentation contents which are constructed by a dialogue between embodied characters. There are many types of presentation style to provide information to users to get a better understanding. If the way which information is shown through an embodied characters' dialogue is adopted, the characters have the faces and bodies in order to be "embodied", so, the information provider must care about meanings of a state of nonverbal expressions of the embodied characters. People display and exchange nonverbal expressions including eye-gazes, noddings, and facial expressions in daily conversation. Nonverbal expressions convey various kinds of information that is essential to make our face-to-face communication successful. In the previous work on social psychology, it is known that there are interdependences among nonverbal expressions between those from different persons in conversation with each other. We apply this knowledge to a dialogue between embodied characters, which provide information to users, so that we evaluate if the presentation dialogue expresses the corresponding atmosphere to an expected atmosphere.

The pictograph chat was implemented on a personal digital assistant (PDA) for the chat communications only of the pictograph, and the application experiment including the foreigner was performed. The experiment that added the alphabet as pictograph was performed, too. It was suggested that this system be suitable for the conversation with the foreigner by whom the word was not understood or the intimate friend because of the result of the experiment. The pictograph is insufficient, and to make easily to use, the function of the display of the example of the pictograph and the necessity of the retrieval function have been understood though the experiment engages one's interest.

We have developed a prototype guide system, which was named The Forbidden City Explorer. This system has real-time information sharing functions including image data, chatting, and mutual location information. It gives priority to shared images and chats, supporting a friendly user interface and simple operation methods, especially creating shared images to be used by general people. We applied the system twice to the Forbidden City in Beijing. Users were Chinese. The results of the experiments are as follows: (1) The evaluation of the image data sharing function was timely. (2) With a simple operation, many shared images and chat messages were created.

Proposing the Interdependencies Model between Nonverbal Conversational Signals Displayed by Embodied Agents in a Dialogue

This paper proposes a method of properly controlling nonverbal conversation signals(NCS) displayed by embodied agents which inform users through their dialogues, according to the atmospheres. The controls is important not to convey misunderstanding meanings from their NCS to users. It reports in the field of social psychology that there are some interdependences between NCS expressed in person-to-person dialogue. We focus on the interdependences and classify each scenes of dialogue, aiming to inform audiences, into three essential situations. Then, we define the three situations as atmospheres, and propose a procedure to maintain the interdependences between NCS, which vary with the atmospheres. Finally, we experiment using NCS extracted by TV programs aiming to inform users through dialogues between TV personalities, and evaluate the NCS realized by our procedure.

A solution of lighting problems in Image-Based Rendering

Usual Image-Based Rendering(IBR) has disadvantage in creating an image under an arbitrary illumination environment. Several peoples have discussed this illumination problem on the basis of picture sequences taken in many different illumination environments at a fixed point, based on the theory of the dichromatic model. They take heuristic approaches to deal with the specular reflection component, while some present a solution to the diffuse reflection component using the theory. In this paper, we present a procedure to create an image of dielectric objects from a virtual camera set in an arbitrary environment at an arbitrary position. The image is obtained from three image sequences taken in three kinds of illumination environments. The procedure includes a novel proposal of determining the points of specular refletion on the objects by calculating them using the theory of reflectance map.
