西門町は、現在でも台北市有数の繁華街であり、その歴史は台北市が近代化する過程で始まった。西門町の生まれる前の台北にはダイトウテイ、バンカと呼ばれる自然発生的集落とそれらを管理する台北府城のいわゆる三市街が分離して成立していた。日治期の近代都市計画はこれらを統合し、その副産物として新しい商業中心地区、西門町が形成された。本稿では当時の都市状況を示す文献の調査とともに、この歴史的な都市変容をスペース・シンタックスを用いて分析した。その結果、三市街が分離して成立した原因が移動効率上の要求ではなかったこと、効率性の視点が都市に導入されて初めて西門町が成り立ったことが見出された。そして、西門町の誕生に象徴的に現れていたことは、近代化によって"儀礼的"に都市が構成されていた時代から"効率性"が都市を構成する時代に移り変わったことであったことが結論として示される。

A city is a spatial system that is generated in the process of searching for an ideal form. From the structure of a city, we can find paradigms of the past in which worldviews of the society are instilled. Baroque, to be studied in this paper, is interpreted as a change from ‘limitation' to ‘infinity'. There are many studies that investigated Baroque but they see the change from a single viewpoint of either cosmology or practicality. The purpose of this study is, therefore, to combine these two viewpoints for a comprehensive understanding of what paradigm has formed Baroque cities. Practicality is revealed by means of Space Syntax and our new concept, Urban Entropy Coefficient (: UEC), which is then related to cosmology. We conclude that the intention of Baroque was to configure a Multi-Center layout for the dynamic function of the city. © 2006, Architectural Institute of Japan. All rights reserved.

For studying dwellings, it is essential to experience the place. Without this, it is hard to understand lifestyles, which are self-evident for the dwellers. Therefore, it may be presumed that there are 'default values' which are hard to be read from drawings. Setting our final purpose in generalizing these values as rules forming 'natural space', the aim of this paper is to investigate how to distill the values. To accomplish this, we analyzed Roji and Machiya in Kyoto as a case study and compared them by means of Space Syntax. As it turned out, a part of the values can be distilled by the spatial configuration analysis and the comparison revealed common rules and different tendencies. The analysis makes it possible to read the drawing from another viewpoint.

都市は様々な構成要素に規定されながら形成されてきた。それぞれの時代に生きる人々の経済、防衛、文化などに対する要求のパレート最適を満たす形で、動的に"理想的な形態"を求めてきた。この"動的な"形成をより理解するために、本稿では都市エントロピー係数を提案する。これはスペース・シンタックスの概念である"グローバル"と"ローカル"の二つの異なるレベルの都市解析のデータの乖離を数値化したものである。本稿ではこの都市エントロピー係数の具体的な応用のケーススタディとしてパリの歴史的発展パターンの考察に用いる。このエントロピーは都市の拡大、新しい都市システムの導入により上昇し、都市計画による改造により低下する。結論として、パリの発展パターンはこのエントロピーの数値の上下と関連することを本稿では明示する。
