本稿では，プロジェクタ-カメラシステムにより，動的シーンにおいて鏡面反射成分・拡散反射成分・大域成分を分離する手法を提案する．静的シーンでは，高周波パターン光の投影による直接・大域成分の分離，および，偏光を用いた鏡面反射成分・拡散反射成分の分離が可能である．ところが，これらを動的シーンに適用するには，照明の空間的パターンと偏光状態の両方を高速に切り替える必要がある．そこで提案手法では，DLPプロジェクタのカラーホイールを直線偏光板で置き換えた偏光プロジェクタと高速度カメラを用いて撮影した画像に基づいて，動的シーンにおける成分分離を実現する．試作機を用いた実験を行い，提案手法の有効性を示す.

© 2016 IEEE. Appearance of objects change from their original colors according to a lighting condition. Nowadays, a projector-camera system can act a tool to control colors or textures of objects in each small area divided in pixel level by light projection onto their physical surfaces. Conventional system can change the appearance in realtime under constant environmental lights. However, the change of environmental lights also influence the appearance. Therefore, we propose an advanced appearance control method considering the change of the environmental lights. In particular, we use a projector-camera system consisting of two cameras and one 3D projector. In addition, we apply liquid crystal shutter filters in order to estimate reflectances and variations of environmental lights separately simultaneously in real-time. In this paper, we show our theory for the estimation and results under different conditions of environmental lights.

Calligraphy work shows various expressions by using shades of the ink and textures of the papers, although the appearance seems to be just black and white at a glance. This appearance acts as the only interface through which calligraphers can express their intention to appreciators. At exhibition places, such as museums or galleries, lighting is an important element to prepare the best appearance for displaying these art works. In this study, we apply a projector-camera system as novel lighting for exhibitions instead of conventional lighting. The camera captures delicate expressions of the calligraphy work and the light projection enhances the expressions. First, we extracted kansei words from calligraphy evaluations by professionals, then we made a positioning map. Second, we conducted experiments to find projection modes corresponding to parts of the map using real calligraphy works. Finally, we discussed "Intention Augmentation" exemplified by our novel lighting for exhibitions.

This paper proposes a principle statistical approach for GP (ground plane) detection by using depth camera. Current GP detection algorithms have focused on calculating the minimum distance to estimating the ground plane, while less of them have considered the probability distribution and the angle of the camera to improve the performance.In this paper, we employ the KDE (Kernel Density Estimator) to obtain the probability density of the height distribution, with which the GP can be estimated. By using the estimated GP we calculate the angle of camera, and then feedback it to update GP until a certain condition has been reached. We evaluate our algorithm named as AGP-CIC(Angle-GP cross iterative convergence) on many challenging scenes and compare it with other distance-based algorithms.

The spatial augmented reality technique that consists of a projector and a camera enables the appearance manipulation of real world by the illumination projection. Today, since the projector keeps getting smaller, the SAR made composed by mobile devices became a realistic story. However, it is difficult to calibrate an optical response beforehand because the use in various illumination environment is supposed for the mobile SAR system. In this research, we propose the method that achieves an invariant appearance manipulation for the various ambient lighting by the accurate reflectance estimation using DLP projector.

Adaptive geometrical compensation of projection image by update the pixel map

The Spatial Augmented Reality using the projector and camera system enables the geometrical compensation of the projection image based on the pixel correspondence (pixel map) between a capture image and a projection image obtained by the calibration. However, an artifact pattern is generated by a projection image because of a disparity between the pixel map and a physical projection when the projection is changed. In this paper, we propose the geometrical calibration method that update the pixel map adaptively. The idea is it uses the artifact pattern, and calculates the optical flow between a projection image and a capture image based on epipolar constraint.

In this paper a novel image capturing method for a solution of shading problem in computer vision is proposed. In the experiments, we performed the evaluation about the conditions of environment lighting and additional lighting and proposed controlled lighting method. Image-processing of self quotient image algorithm, histogram equalization, and luminance equalization were used for pre-processing to remove shading from a captured image for the comparative evaluation. Through the evaluation of robustness assumed appearance based method, the proposed method showed most stable results. In addition to this, the capability of the high dynamic range image reconstruction with approximation by using of projector camera system has been shown.

乱流まで考慮した現実的な液体アニメーションを高速に生成することは非常に困難である．そこで，本論文では，粒子法においてパーティクルをサブパーティクルに分割することによりシミュレーションでは捉えきれない速度場，粒子配置を再現し，乱流を含む流れの流体表面を生成する手法を提案する．また，その実装を行い，提案手法の有効性を検証する．It is very difficult to make an animation of liquid with turbulence. In this paper, we propose a method to generate fluid surface including turbulent flow by dividing fluid particles into sub-particles and updating positions and velocity field that usual particle method can not capture. We implement this method and verify it.

In this paper, we show that a more accurate estimation of a 3 × 3 rotation matrix R can be achieved by appropriately decomposing higher-order rotation matrices: R2, R3, and so on. First we discuss an angle estimation of a 2 × 2 rotation matrix inspired by the Electronic Distance Measurement. Then we reformulate the problem for a 3 x 3 rotation matrix: if noise-contaminated measurement matrices R, R2,⋯, Rn are given, find an appropriate rotation matrix R. In the proposed method, the given measurement matrices are first transformed to rotation matrices by using the polar decomposition. Then the rotation angles are obtained by using an eigen decomposition of the rotation matrices. Finally, the ambiguity of the obtained rotation angle is removed. Experimental results show that the use of Rn results in more accurate estimates than when R itself is used.

既存のビデオ会話システムは，対面でのコミュニケーションを模倣しようとしている．その目的は，自分が遠方にいる話し相手と一緒にいるんだと感じれるようなソーシャルプレセンスの感覚を実現することにある．我々は，ビデオ会話システムにおいて，このソーシャルプレセンスを向上させるために，一方のユーザの存在感を他方のユーザの映像の中に感じさせる方法を提案する．実際にこのアイデアに基づく試作システムを構築し，試験的な評価実験を行ったので，それについて報告する．Current video-chat systems try to copy face-to-face communication. They aim to create a sense of social presence, which is the feeling that one person is present with another person in a mediated environment. We propose an approach to enhance social presence of video-mediated systems by simulating the presence of one user into the second user's video image. A prototype was implemented and a pilot study was conducted.

The most of employed processes are described with linear calculation, thus, whole procedure for each parameter estimation is expressed by a pair inner production, and it used only an arctangent calculation at the final part of the estimation. The accuracy evaluation by 3DOFs pose estimation that includes rotation around the object's vertical and horizontal translations is shown in experiment. We also describe its calculation cost in discussions.

In this paper, we show that a more accurate estimation of a 3*3 rotation matrix R can be achieved by appropriately decomposing higher-order rotation matrices: R^2,R^3, and so on. First we discuss an angle estimation of a 2*2 rotation matrix inspired by the Electronic Distance Measurement. Then we reformulate the problem fora 3*3 rotation matrix: if noise-contaminated measurement matrices R,R^2,...,R^n are given, find an appropriate rotation matrix R. In the proposed method, the given measurement matrices are first transformed to rotation matrices by using the polar decomposition. Then the rotation angles are obtained by using an eigen decomposition of the rotation matrices. Finally, the ambiguity of the obtained rotation angle is removed. Numerical simulations and pose estimation experiments show that the use of R^n results in more accurate estimates than when R itself is used.

In this paper, a new approach of defect detection from complex texture patterns that have structural regularity for automated visual inspection is proposed. The approach uses correlation based defect detection, and any kind of model of defect feature is unnecessary. Additionally, proposed method applies k-means clustering to the samples acquired by pixel-by-pixel movement of sampling window, and achieves a very sensitive defect detection. In the experiment, the effectiveness is shown through the experiment by the complex texture patterns that have structural regularity.

In this paper, we propose a method called EbC, Estimation-by-Completion, a high speed estimation of pose parameters of a three-dimensional object in an image. For appearance-based pose estimation, EbC method introduces the concept of information track that represents the parameters embedded into image samples. The pose parameters are estimated by the completion of the information track with BPLP method, an image interpolation technique with eigenspace learning. EbC integrates the completion of the information track and the estimation of the parameters into pairs of two images, called EbC image pairs, and performs quickly the estimation by few inner products of images. Experimental results for pose estimation results of three degree of freedoms, rotation about vertical axis and horizontal and vertical translations, show the accuracy, and calculation cost of EbC method is described.

Restoration Support of the Damaged Oil painting by Virtual Restoration

In recent years, the art museum support by digital archives attracts attention. However, there is no research which treated digital archives and image processing for restoration systematically. In this paper, in order to support actual restoration by virtual restoration, it discussed systematically to digital archives, extraction of damage, and virtual restoration. First, we extracted the missing part by digitizing form for oil painting with flaking. Next, the interpolation of image processing corresponding to the actual restoration was discussed, and virtual restoration was performed. Furthermore, addition of texture was examined in order to improve an interpolation result.

Influence of Dummy Binocular Disparities and Monocular Clues on the Depth Perception

The phenomenon in which depth feeling increases is known for many years by giving dummy binocular disparities to a single picture, and getting rid of the vergence. Although the reason is not solved yet, if solved, it is clear to take a big step toward realization of stereoscopic vision from a single picture. Then, towards realization of stereoscopic vision by the single picture, the influence on the depth perception which dummy binocular disparities and monocular clues do was investigated quantitatively. From the result, depending on the intensity of monocular clues, it became clear to enable depth perception of the same grade as the case where a stereo picture is used also by use of the picture which added dummy binocular disparities.

This paper presents a technique of analyzing the degree of movement in facial parts during expressions using range and intensity information. Pre-determined facial actions are measured by a rangefinder system called 'Cubicfacer' which produces dense 3D and color texture images of a measuring subject. A topological face mesh is constructed and adapted to the measured range data using the information in the corresponding color image. The mesh adaptation process is done iteratively by approximating a polynomial function with the least squares estimation. Patch variances of sub-meshes are then computed to analyze the movements of different facial parts. The experiment is done for apparent normal and disordered human subjects to determine the differences in facial movements.

Up to now a copying machine requires setting the document to the copy glass of the designated position. In addition to that, the copying machine cannot copy the non-flat shape document without distortion. So, we propose a next generation's document reader "Eye Scanner". The Eye Scanner is composed of the range finder, digital camera and pan-tilt stage system. Due to these devices, the Eye Scanner is able to read the document by the free viewpoint and able to generate the image which is not distorted by the geometric conversion. In this paper, we explain about the detail of the system. At the experiment, we show some result of distortion correction and show the result of image merging at divide capture.

It is difficult to decide what kind of and how many visual information from figure characteristics for recognition. However, if a quantity of all visual information can be decided, we can decide kind and amount of visual information, and have a clue to make it clarify the mechanism of brain for visual information process. In this paper, we show the possibility of measurement of the Visual Complexity that is defined as a quantity of all figure characteristics in the object, which are source of visual information, with measurement of the Effective Visual Field for recognizing character, and Eyesight Distribution on Retina.

An application of the pose detection using range images usually uses characteristic matching of the geometrical model but this method has two problems: selecting characteristics from range images is difficult; and it is difficult to make a geometrical model for a complicated shape. Previously a parametric eigen-space method was proposed for pose detection. This method makes object recognition and pose detection possible, but this parametric eigen-space method has a problem that intensity-images depend on a variety of light conditions therefore learning images must include variation of light conditions. © 1996 IEEE.
