In the densely built-up area,people face grave risks of the street-blockades in case of strong earthquake because of lacking open spaces. On the other hand,many vacant houses tend to be neglected in some densely built-up area. However I think it's possible that utilizing them as ""space for Disaster prevention."" The purpose of this study is to understand an actual condition of existing vacant houses and make clear possibility of utilizing them as "spaces for disaster prevention" in the densely built-up area. I evaluated the disaster prevention performances of the ways of maintenances wiht vacant houses; ""removing"",""making it street"",""widening"",""making it refuge"" and ""compounding ways."" As a result,I found that ""compounding ways""performs radically and that it's possible to utilize vacant houses as"spaces for disaster prevention" in the densely built-up area.

There are many illuminated objects in Nakanoshima which represents “Capital of water” Osaka. The purpose of this study is to clarify how people recognize the nightscape in Nakanoshima by taken photographs and to clarify the nightscape's characteristics in Nakanoshima by the correlative analysis with the illuminance index we define. We clarified there were seven types of nightscape in Nakanoshima. In addition, The type of the nightscape is different even if depending in area. Moreover, We defined “vertical-horizontal illuminance ratio” and clarified it has correlation with taking photograph.

Preventive measures against disasters of earthquake are necessary in the built-up areas, whereas there are also spaces to be used attractively such as "Alleys". Methods that satisfy both requirements to improve preventive measures and to preserve attractiveness of alley are necessary. This study analyzed relations between urban grid and utilization of alleys and relations between urban grid and methods to maintain densely built-up area referring to the area in Osaka City. As a result, we found that the utilization of alley was changed due to urban grid and efficient method could be found by analysis of urban grid. Thus, we tried to show that there is a possibility of the method to maintain densely built-up areas efficiently because of urban grid preserving the attraction of alleys.

To make the river a safe water-familiar space, we obtain the features of the water-related accidents by investigating the data-base in a newspaper, and we observe activity of children and adults around the watersides where the accidents are recorded. We obtain the following results. 1. Water-related accidents occur at a place with a lot of water-familiar activity of the children. 2. There is no cooperation between the river authority, park authority, fire station and police. It is probable that children performing water-familiar activity on the waterside are watched by adults staying on the river park. The problems lie in the lack of spatial cooperation and communication.

The following thesis identifies the factors of students who revisited their assigned region within the "Community Development Internship Program". Through understanding these factors it is hoped that the relationship between the rural and city regions will improve. Based on the analysis of previous reports and interviews of students and local residents, it was made clear that there are 5 factors which aid the return of students.1) Overall Geographical Location 2) Local Base during the Program 3)Amount of time spent with Local Residents 4) Succession of Internship Program Managers 5) Collaboration with other Local Programs. Through the improvement of these factors the further cultivation of human resources within the rural regions is expected.

Approximately 78% of such currently diverted land is now being used for commercial housing such as homes for sale and apartment buildings.2. This study clarified the following points on the relationship between dwelling and manufacturing function for textile industry buildings located in Sumida ward, Tokyo.<br>1) The door plate survey showed that 68% of the buildings included dwelling function, and 29% shared dwelling and manufacturing function. 2) 62% of the buildings was found to have dwelling function from the questionnaire survey. 89% of the results showed agreement with the door plate survey. 3) Only 50% of the land use investigation results showed agreement with the actual situation on the mixed function of buildings. Reliance of the land use investigation was found to be poor.

In these days, local special product branding is watched with keen interest as a effective method for activating the reigons economicaly and mentaly. But it has just started, so there are a few researches and arrenged information. It is nessecery to research for the actual condition and the influence of branding.<br>At first I extracted the marine products that are registered a trade mark and put informations in order. Secondly, I clarified the influece of local special product branding for the regional economy and the residense attitude in case of Anori-fugu. The result is 1) adding product value, 2) increasing visitor, 3) producing resident's affection and pride for the region.

This study aims to clarify the actual conditions about dwelling unit combined with other use. By forcusing on process and distribution of non-dwelling function in Tama Newtown, we clarified the following things. 1. In Tama Newtown, non-dwelling function has been inserted to dwelling unit (we call 'dwelling unit combined with other use' on this paper) because there is a flexibility in respect of space and management inside of dwelling unit. 2. Generation of non-dwelling function needs the passage of time. 3. Residents who operate non-dwelling function feel the merit and demerit. Some of them want to transfer to the outside because of the need for wider space.

In this study, the authers have investigated the movement of visitor's walking around a commercial area with high density stores. And the density of stores on the commercial area is originally defined. With all distinction of exit, weekday or holiday and sex, the density of number of the excurtion people of each distance to one's destination forms exponential distribution. The area is higher density of stores, the times of dropping on stores and of passing through the street are the more. And the speed fo walking is tend to slow. As the walking becomes fast, the times fo dropping and passing is increase to maximum at walking speed 0.95m/s, and then decrease. The root 54 plan at Kitazawa 2-chome will be devide the many inportant streets for excursive moving.

This Paper focuses on the boundaries, of that made by facade and that dividing residential and commercial usage of billboard architecture. Consciousness of residents rebuilding the billboard architecture were then clarified. Results are as followed. 1) Residents' recognition concerning the facade has changed. 2) Commercial factors give the largest effects to the change of boundary between housing and shop. 3) Changes in both kinds of boundaries happened simultaneously.

The purpose of this paper is to clarify how areas of activity and consciousness vary through the river's form. We chose the Kannagawa River as a case, and grasped the river's form, and made a survey about the areas of activity and consciousness of riverside inhabitants. It became clear that the areas of activity and consciousness have different characters between the upper and lower reaches of the river. And the apex of fan is the conversion point, where the river's form changes significantly. On the upper reaches from the apex of fan river doesn't act as a boundary: areas form the unity, which get over the river. On the lower reaches, river acts as a boundary of the areas.

In this study, assessment of historical architecture scenery by evaluating historical architecture as cluster units with the adjoining buildings is presented as a new key to restoration method. Actual application of this technique is illustrated through the research work of Yamachou-suji street, Takaoka city, Toyama prefecture. By assessing the Dozouzukuri houses with its absolute and relative values, a preservation method for the historical street is proposed on its basis.
