Adaptation games lead to active participation by setting the optimal level of a game for all the players involved. Players can immerse themselves in the game by optimizing the difficulty of the game. By practicing this concept in sports, especially ball games, a scenario can be created where individuals differing in physical fitness can compete in the same way. With the introduction of adaptation games in physical education, the goal is not to win or lose, or to improve skills, but for all participants to enjoy the game. This reflects a symbiotic viewpoint described in the course of study (MEXT, 2017), and it can be said that adaptation games may include “differences” such as those in physical strength differences, gender, and the presence or absence of disabilities. The purpose of this study was to accumulate practical knowledge and to examine potential teaching methods for adaptation games by examining the type of learning perceived by students in physical education adaptation games at junior high school. 
This study practiced adaptation games in the second-year junior high school basketball unit, and analyzed the sentences on learning cards written by the students after classes and an interview with the teacher after the unit. The study involved quantitative analysis using KH Coder3 software. 
Co-occurrence network analysis confirmed 8 clusters before introduction of the adaptation (from the 2nd to 3rd lessons), 7 clusters at the time of introduction (4th lesson) and 6 clusters after introduction of the adaptation (from the 5th to 9th lessons). Prior to the introduction of adaptation, clusters often used words related to points of attention on shooting and other skills, such as “points,” “success,” and “course”. In the cluster after the introduction of adaptation, words such as “many”, “aggressive”, and “pass” were found. These are words related to increasing one’s shooting opportunities, changing opportunities for participation, and the like. 
The introduction of adaptation changed the opportunity to shoot, and to participate. In addition, individuals learned to enjoy the sensation of victory or defeat as a result of the adaptation. It can be said that the introduction of adaptation embraced “differences” and provided an opportunity to learn “coexistence”.

In adaptation games, the more successful team must normally adapt to the less successful team. Adaptation is required for the entire opposing team, but there are likely to be differences in adaptability that depend on each individual’s skill level. There may be students who find adaptation makes the game too difficult, and students who can easily handle it. To resolve this difficulty, the present study attempts to personalize the adaptation game by asking that the students themselves demand an adaptation that suits them, and that social interest is nurtured in the process. This personalization creates an opportunity for all members to become equal, fosters an awareness of participation in sports on an equal basis and encourages social interest in both members of their own team and the opposing team. As a result, it is possible to create opportunities for mutual attention among various students, fostering social interest. The purpose of this study was to verify student learning as they progressed through a basketball lessons unit, using personalized adaptation games.

本研究では、小学校体育において、児童が「対象(教材)」、「他者」、「自己」との「かかわり」を経験することよって、生まれる学びについて検証した。ボールゲーム単元のゴール型ゲームにおいて、対象グループとした児童５名の行動や発言、対話の様子などを中心に文字に起こした。このデータを分析する中で、単元を通して大きな変化が見受けられる児童Ｍを抽出した。単元序盤、ゲームでの動き方がわからずに戸惑う様子が見られた児童Ｍが、教師や仲間からの指示・誘導により、ゲームでの動きを習得し、単元終盤には自分から仲間にゲームでの動き方を指示することができた。この児童の具体的な行動を、３つのカテゴリーに分類し、単元を通した変化過程を時系列に沿って検証した。これらの検証の結果、児童が学びを実現させる中で生じる「葛藤」や「まさつ」が明らかになり、これらが学びの実現につながる過程には、教師の学習課題に則した働きかけや仲間からの働きかけが大きく影響していることが明らかになった。

Dimensional Analysis of Spike-Jump in Beach Volleyball : As Compared to Indoor Volleyball

本研究は、男子のビーチバレーボール選手とバレーボール選手を対象に、スパイクジャンプにおける助走・踏切局面に着目した３次元動作分析からそれぞれのスパイクジャンプ動作の違いを明らかにし、今後の指導の一助とすることを目的とした。被験者は、男子ビーチバレーボール選手(平均26.2±4.4歳)とバレーボール選手(平均23.6±1.8歳)、各５名とした。それぞれスパイク動作を全力で行い、１歩助走と被験者が一番高く跳べるフリー助走の２種類を行った。その結果、踏切右足が接地する際、ビーチバレーボール選手の足の裏の面は砂に対してフラットとなっているのに対し、バレーボール選手は踵接地で足の裏の面はネットに向いていることが明らかになった。また、ビーチバレーボール選手はバレーボール選手に比べ、踏切歩幅が狭く踏切時に膝関節と股関節が屈曲し、膝関節および股関節の可動域を大きく活用して跳躍していることが示唆された。腕振りに関しては、ビーチバレーボール選手は両足に力を加えるために腕を振り下げているのに対し、バレーボール選手は右足に力を加えるために腕を振り下げており、両者とも体をあげるために腕の振り上げ動作を行っていると考えられる。

Classification of the Enjoyment of the Basketball Class for the University Students of Physical Education and Sports Chair

The purpose of this study was to classify the enjoyment of the basketball class for the university students. Using the self-administered questionnaire with the FSS (Flow State Scale), we investigated the structure of the flow state of the students of physical education and sports chair, W university. First, as the results of factor analysis, we extracted 6factors for the structure of the enjoyment of the basketball class: 1) Confidence, 2) Autotelic Experience, 3) Loss of Self-Consciousness, 4) Action-Awareness Merging, 5) Concentration, and 6) Clear goals. Secondly, we divided the survey participants into the skillful and unskillful group (subjectively). And it was revealed that the skillful group tended to acquire the sense of Flow more than the unskillful group, while the participants would experience the sense of Flow in spite of skillful or unskillful.

Verification of Learning Outcomes at Hurdle Run Unit in Junior High School Physical Education Classes

The purpose of this study is to verify the leaning outcomes at hurdle run unit using ICT devices in a junior high school that practice collaborative learning.As a result, three factors of the Industry Scale for Physical Education classes (Discovery of challenge, Initial remark, and Conscientiousness) were significantly increased. Also more than half of students written out on the learning cards about "form". This result indicate that this hurdle unit which using ICT devices promoted student's autonomy.

中学生1年生を対象とした体育理論「多様なスポーツへの関わり方」領域においてサッカーワールドカップポーランド戦を教材とした授業を実践し、授業の最後に行った振り返り記述から生徒の学びを考察した。振り返り記述を検証した結果、賛成／反対どちらかの意見を記述した生徒、賛成／反対双方の意見を記述した生徒、自分の立場と逆の意見に理解を示す記述した生徒、議論を俯瞰的に捉えた記述した生徒の4種類が認められた。このうち、議論を俯瞰的に捉えた記述をした生徒は他の知識や経験と結びつけた「深い学び」をしていたと捉えることができた。このような俯瞰的な捉え方が、汎用的能力やスポーツの見方・考え方を育むと推察できる。

The Effect of Coach Feedback on Soccer Competence in Youth Soccer Players.

The purpose of this study was to develop a self-perceived soccer-specific competence scale for youth players and to investigate the effects of coach feedback on the soccer competence of these players in actual competitive sport settings. Firstly, in order to develop the scale, the total of 611 Japanese male youth soccer players completed a questionnaire, which was composed of 60 items selected from a preliminary study. Participants were also asked to score their own ability as a soccer player out of a hundred. The players' scored assessment of their own ability was used as a criterion variable. Exploratory factor analysis revealed that soccer competence of youth players consisted of 9 sub-scales: passing and ball control with proper decision making, speed, motivation, endurance, dribbling skill, heading skill, defensive skill, physical strength and leadership. As the scale included individual ball techniques and group skill, physical fitness and mental fitness, which are essential elements of competitive soccer ability, it was considered to represent an adequate evaluation of selfperceived soccer competence in youth players. Additionally, players who had lower soccer ability scores showed significantly lower evaluation on the soccer competence scale than players who displayed higher scores. These results indicate that the soccer competence scale would provide a multi-dimensional and precise reflection of soccer competence in Japanese male youth players. Secondly, in order to investigate the effects of coach feedback on youth players' soccer competence, one coach and 15 male junior youth soccer club players participated in this study. The coach's feedback to the players was recorded for 7 months using VTR and subsequently categorized into seven domains: (1) positive, (2) negative, (3) instructive, (4) questioning, (5) organizing, (6) friendly, and (7) other. Both before and after the observation period, players were asked to complete the soccer competence questionnaire derived in the first study. This revealed that competence related to passing and ball control with proper decision-making and dribbling skill increased significantly throughout the observation period. However, coach feedback did not significantly affect the longitudinal change in soccer competence. On the other hand, with regard to defensive skill, although no significant longitudinal change was confirmed during the observation period, there was a negative association between the frequency of negative feedback and the defensive skill score. Finally, the limitations of this study and future issues were discussed.

Developing an Industry Scale for Assessing Physical Education Classes in Elementary Schools:by Considering Differences with Other Subjects, Flow Experience, Grade, and Gender

The Industry Scale of Physical Education Classes in Elementary Schools (ISPE) was developed. Then, ISPE was used to clarify differences in Industry, which is one stage of Erickson's stages of psychosocial development, in relation to grade, gender, and flow experiences in physical education classes, as well as efforts made in other subjects. A questionnaire consisting of 43 items related to Industry was developed in a pilot study by qualitatively analyzing a unit of physical development exercise in third and fourth grades of elementary school. In the main study, elementary school students (N = 1,276, 646 boys and 630 girls) responded to this questionnaire. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the ISPE consisted of four factors and 22 items: (1) Empathy for peers, (2) Discovery of challenges, (3) Initial remarks and (4) Conscientiousness. Each ISPE factor had satisfactory internal consistency, and each ISPE factor score was positively correlated with the results of fitness and physical competence tests, which confirmed its concurrent validity. Moreover, each ISPE factor score had a weak correlation with efforts made in other subjects including Japanese language and arithmetic. These results are suggestive of a common industry trait in all subjects. Moreover, a moderate correlation was indicated between ISPE score and flow experiences in physical education, suggesting flow experience of students is based on Industry. Furthermore, a two-way ANNOVA indicated that ISPE score and physical competence had similar gender differences and changing trends caused by increasing school year. 本実践では、小学校4年生、5年生、6年生の各1クラスを対象に、ゴール型ゲームにおける戦術学習を実践し、単元前後の質問紙調査とゲームパフォーマンス調査を行った。その結果、単元前後で体育勤勉性における「挑戦機会の発見」は有意に向上し、「勤勉さ」と「積極的発言」は有意に向上する傾向が認められた。また、運動有能感においては、「身体的有能さ」のみが有意に向上し、「統制感」や「受容感」は向上しなかった。このことは、本実践が内発的動機づけのうち、「自律性」に影響を及ぼしたが、「有能さの認知」や「関係性欲求」には影響しなかったことを示唆する。一方で、ゲームパフォーマンスは単元に伴い向上が認められた。これらのことは、ゴール型ボール運動において、子どもに技能向上を認識させることが困難であることを示唆している。

Leadership Training to Promote a Sense of Belonging to the University

OIU holds Leadership Training programs for students who participate in extracurricular activities as committee officers. The first purpose of this study was to verify the effects on student's feelings of belonging to OIU and their social skills through programs of Leadership Training with faculty members. The second was to determine any interaction between social skills and feelings of belonging through the training. The training consisted of ASE, cutter boats, outdoor cooking and campus meetings and 88 OIU students (46 male and 42 female) participated. Students completed the KiSS18 and Social Identity Inventory before and after the programs. The results showed significant improvements in feelings of belonging to OIU and social skills through the programs. Also that there was no interaction between feelings of belonging to OIU and social skills.

This study surveyed 3,888 junior high school students, compared the differences in their preferences on exercise and physical education and attempted to determine their impression of their ideal PE teacher. Findings were that students who liked exercise and PE had a tendency to expect their teachers to be good at sports and teach them enthusiastically, whereas those who disliked exercise tended to expect their teachers to enhance the class atmosphere and give them individual instruction. Students' expectations of teachers' behavior in physical education classes at junior high school

The purpose of this study was to identify students' expectation of teachers' behavior in physical education classes, and to examine the relationship between this expectation and students' self-perceived competence. The total of 1192 junior high school students (613 boys and 579 girls) completed two kinds of questionnaire. One of them was used to detect types of behavior students expect from their teachers, and the other to evaluate students' level of physical competence and perceived control. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis revealed four expectation factors for teacher behavior (enriched learning environment, equal relationship between teacher and student, criticism, encouragement). The results showed that girls had higher expectations than boys for all teacher behavior factors, except for criticism. In fact boys expected more criticism than did girls. Furthermore, there was a moderate positive correlation between perceived control and three expectation factors of teacher behavior (enriched learning environment, equal relationship between teacher and student, encouragement), despite a weak correlation between physical competence and all students' expectation factors. These results indicate that girls expect closer and more positive interaction with their teachers than do boys. In addition, it was also revealed that perceived control had stronger effects on students' expectations of teacher behavior during physical education classes in comparison to physical competence.

Attitudes of elementary school children toward their physical activities and sports participations

The purpose of this research was to compare differences, through preferences in exercise and physical education (PE), in the image children have of the teacher they would like to have in their PE lessons. The study was carried out on 3, 735 elementary school pupils in Kanagawa Prefecture, using a questionnaire format. The results are as shown below. 1. Preferences regarding exercise and PE were shared by many children, with approximately 75% liking both of them. 2. Children who like exercise and PE tended to want their PE teacher to be strict with them in PE lessons, whereas children who do not like exercise and PE tended to want their teacher to be kind. Furthermore, the desire for strictness increased as children moved up through the school, with this tendency being particularly strong among boys. 3. Among boys, and children who like exercise and PE, there was a tendency to attach importance to exercise with regard to the teacher in PE lessons, whereas girls and children who do not like exercise and PE tended to have a strong desire for physical education in which the teacher gives them support. 4. Among children who like PE, as with those who hate PE there was a tendency for children who do not like exercise to want a teacher who responds to children and is kind with them.

The environment available for children's games, and related factors: comparison between generations

The present study was performed to clarify the reasons for the reduction in the amount of time spent by the current generation of elementary school children playing outside or participating in sports, based on opinions from both the children themselves and their guardians and teachers, data that could be used to establish methods of promoting outdoor activities or sports. This survey was conducted using a questionnaire that targeted 3,752 elementary school students in Kanagawa prefecture (broken down into 999 4th grade boys, 891 4th grade girls, 933 6th grade boys and 929 6th grade girls), 5,017 of the guardians of these students (685 males and 4,332 females), and 1,202 education-related personnel (423 males and 779 females). In order to process the results, we categorized the figures into 3 groups of children, adult generation 1 (20 to 30 years of age), and adult generation 2 (40 to 50 years of age), and analyzed them on the basis of Hayashi's quantification theory. In examining the characteristics of play and activities, we found that children played less frequently outside in locations such as open spaces and empty land lots, and that they tended to play alone more often when compared with recollections by adult generations 1 and 2. Furthermore, we found that playing outside or engaging in sports was not passed on to children as types of activity that could be enjoyed in groups. We also observed that the types of play activities children adopted are greatly affected by the media. Regarding the relationship between play activity environments and the variety of outdoor play and sports, we found that regardless of generation classification the experience of playing in natural settings such as mountains, the sea, rivers or similar locations served as a large factor in providing variety for recreational activities, and that participation in sports clubs and the involvement of adults were also major factors in promoting such activities. Based on these findings, we suggest that establishing and maintaining locations where children can play with a sense of freedom, and the involvement of adults in passing on play activities and introducing play-related ideas, are essential for the promotion of outdoor play activities and sports for children.
