    Millimeter-wave (mmw) frequency bands, especially 60 GHz unlicensed band, are considered as a promising solution for giga-bit short range wireless communication systems. IEEE standard 802.11ad, also known as WiGig, is standardized for the usage of the 60 GHz unlicensed band for wireless local area networks (WLANs). By using this mmw WLAN, multi-Gbps rate can be achieved to support bandwidth-intensive multimedia applications. Exhaustive search along with beamforming (BF) is usually used to overcome 60 GHz channel propagation loss and accomplish data transmissions in such mmw WLANs. Because of its short range transmission with a high susceptibility to path blocking, multiple number of mmw access points (APs) should be used to fully cover a typical target environment for future high capacity multi-Gbps WLANs. Therefore, coordination among mmw APs is highly needed to overcome packet collisions resulting from un-coordinated exhaustive search BF and to increase total capacity of mmw WLANs. In this paper, we firstly give the current status of mmw WLANs with our developed WiGig AP prototype. Then, we highlight the great need for coordinated transmissions among mmw APs as a key enabler for future high capacity mmw WLANs. Two different types of coordinated mmw WLAN architecture are introduced. One is distributed antenna type architecture to realize centralized coordination, while the other is autonomous coordination with the assistance of legacy Wi-Fi signaling. Moreover, two heterogeneous network (HetNet) architectures are also introduced to efficiently extend the coordinated mmw WLANs to be used for future 5th Generation (5G) cellular networks.

  • Wide Coverage Area Creation with Radiation-constraint Nodes Based on Distributed Radiation Suppression Using a Secret Sharing Method

    The authors will propose a wide coverage area creation method in an indoor wireless communication environment with radiation-constraint wireless nodes within a condition that the transmitted information can only be conveyed in an indoor wireless space. The authors have proposed a radiation suppression technique to create such a highly secured indoor communication environment. However due to the strict limitation of the radiation constraint, the coverage area will be deeply shrunken when decent radio suppression cannot be attained at the node. This paper will propose a distributed radiation suppression technique using a secret sharing method to widen the coverage area of the indoor wireless network by relaxing the radiation constraint imposed on the wireless nodes. Computer simulation confirms that a wide coverage area can be created in an indoor wireless space while suppressing information leakage to the outside of the network.

  • Multi-Stage DCF-Based Channel Access Scheme for Throughput Enhancement of OFDMA WLAN Systems

    To enhance the throughput of wireless local area networks (WLANs) by efficiently utilizing the radio resource, a distributed coordination function-based (DCF-based) orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) WLAN system has been proposed. In the system, since each OFDMA sub-channel is assigned to the associated station with the highest channel gain, the transmission rate of DATA frames can be enhanced thanks to multi-user diversity. However, the optimum allocation of OFDMA sub-channels requires the estimation of channel state information (CSI) of all associated stations, and this incurs excessive signaling overhead. As the number of associated stations increases, the signaling overhead severely degrades the throughput of DCF-based OFDMA WLAN. To reduce the signaling overhead while obtaining a sufficient diversity gain, this paper proposes a channel access scheme that performs multiple DCF-based channel access. The key idea of the proposed scheme is to introduce additional DCF-based prioritized access along with the traditional DCF-based random access. lathe additional DCF-based prioritized access, by dynamically adjusting contention window size according to the CSI of each station, only the stations with better channel state inform their CSI to the access point (AP), and the signaling overhead can be reduced while maintaining high multi-user diversity gain. Numerical results confirm that the proposed channel access scheme enhances the throughput of OFDMA WLAN.

  • Group-based Centralized Radio Resource Management Strategies in Wireless Local Area Networks

    To improve the transmission performance of wireless local area networks (WLANs), this paper proposes a distributed coordination function-based (DCF-based) medium access control (MAC) protocol that enables centralized radio resource management (RRM). In the protocol, AP and associated stations form a cooperative group, and the central controller acts as a master to organize the access of associated stations. Once the cooperative group reserves the radio resource in a traditional DCF-manner, the central controller allocates the reserved radio resources to the stations by an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) scheme. Since the central controller dynamically allocates the fine-grained resource blocks (RBs) to the stations through the opportunistic two-dimensional scheduling based on the channel and traffic conditions of each station, the transmission opportunities can be granted to the appropriate stations. Numerical results confirm that the proposed protocol enhance the throughput while satisfying QoS requirements.

  • Wide-area Centralized Radio Resource Management for DCF-based Multi-hop Ad hoc Wireless Networks

    This paper proposes a novel medium access control (MAC) protocol that enables a wide area centralized radio resource management (RRM) in a distributed coordination function (DCF)-based multi-hop wireless network. In the proposed protocol, after the acquisition of transmission opportunity in a DCF-manner, a source station (STA) attempts to forward a medium reservation advertisement (MRA) frame to a destination STA. MRA forwarding enables multiple STAs constituting a multi-hop network to reserve the radio resource for their exclusive use throughout multi-hop wide area. MRA forwarding is also utilized to gather channel state information (CSI) and traffic state information (TSI) of STAs at the central controller that is adaptively selected from the STAs. After the MRA forwarding, based on the CSI and TSI of each STA, the central controller dynamically allocates the resource blocks (RBs) to the appropriate STAs through the opportunistic two-dimensional scheduling using OFDMA scheme. Assigned RB information is notified to STAs by relaying transmission schedule advertisement (TSA) frame, and the STAs send DATA frames on the allocated RBs. Numerical simulation confirms that the proposed scheme enhances the end-to-end throughput of multi-hop network.

  • Realization of Secure Ambient Wireless Network System Based on Spatially Distributed Ciphering Function

    This paper proposes a secure wireless network system required for an ambient information society; it forms a privacy zone wherein terminals can securely communicate secret information using an arbitrary general radio channel. For this system, we introduce a scheme using a side-information from a special node. The information is used as an encryption key so that the detectable region of the key defines a privacy zone. We implement the scheme on the basis of IEEE 802.15.4 and realize the world's first ambient network platform with the above functionality. An experiment and demonstration show the effectiveness of the proposed system.

    To enhance the throughput of orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) wireless local area network (WLAN) systems, this paper proposes a stations-clustering strategy in which stations in the basic service set (BSS) are grouped into clusters. In the proposed scheme, initially, to obtain statistics required for calculating the expected throughput achieved by OFDMA WLAN when the stations are grouped into a certain clustered-pattern, the access point (AP) and all stations belong to the same cluster and transmit DATA frames for a certain period. After that, the AP calculates the expected throughput for all clustered-patterns and chooses a clustered-pattern that maximizes the expected throughput. Then, the stations are grouped into clusters in accordance with the selected clustered-pattern, and the stations within the same cluster share the radio resource by OFDMA WLAN scheme. Numerical simulation confirms that the proposed scheme can maximize throughput performance by introduction of dynamic station clustering in the single BSS environment and it is also effective in preventing channel state information (CSI) feedback blocking due to station exposition in the overlapping BSS environment. © 2013 IEEE.

    To enhance the throughput of wireless local area networks (WLANs) while satisfying the quality of service (QoS) requirements, this paper proposes a novel DCF-based multi-user MAC protocol employing orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) scheme. In the proposed protocol, an access point (AP) acts as a master to organize all the stations within the basic service set (BSS) and reserves the radio resource by the conventional distributed coordination function (DCF). In the resource reservation period, the AP performs a flexible access control utilizing the fine-grained resource block and the opportunistic scheduling based on the QoS requirements and the channel condition of each station. With the objective to increase the spectrum efficiency as well as to satisfy the QoS requirements, this paper also proposes a dynamic resource allocation algorithm.     To enhance the throughput while satisfying the quality of service (QoS) requirements of wireless local area networks (WLANs), this paper proposes a distributed coordination function-based (DCF-based) medium access control (MAC) protocol that realizes centralized radio resource management (RRM) for a basic service set. In the proposed protocol, an access point (AP) acts as a master to organize the associated stations and attempts to reserve the radio resource in a conventional DCF-manner. Once the radio resource is successfully reserved, the AP controls the access of each station by an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) scheme. Because the AP assigns radio resources to the stations through the opportunistic two-dimensional scheduling based on the QoS requirements and the channel condition of each station, the transmission opportunities can be granted to the appropriate stations. In order to reduce the signaling overhead caused by centralized RRM, the proposed protocol introduces a station-grouping scheme which groups the associated stations into clusters. Moreover, this paper proposes a heuristic resource allocation algorithm designed for the DCF-based MAC protocol. Numerical results confirm that the proposed protocol enhances the throughput of WLANs while satisfying the QoS requirements with high probability.     This paper proposes an antenna directivity control method of adaptive array antenna for secure wireless transmission by dividing the transmitted information into pieces of divided-information and sending each pieces of information in a spatially distributed manner along multiple paths in a wireless space. Based on the DCMP weight control algorithm, the authors propose an antenna directivity control method not only to steer its main lobe to one targeted path but also to suppress other side lobes to suppress unnecessary signal radiation. Computer simulation confirms that by suppressing the side lobes of the antenna directivity, the transmitted signal power can be concentrated along the targeted path. It is effective to provide multiple transmission routes for signal delivery in the wireless space. Therefore better performance in regard with the secrecy of the transmitted information can be achieved in the wireless space by sending the transmitted information in a spatially distributed manner along the selected paths between the sender and the destination.

    This paper proposes a space division and time division multiple access (SD/TDMA) technique based on intensity distributions for hybrid line-of-sight (hybrid-LOS) indoor optical wireless communication system. At first, a novel signal discrimination scheme for the spatially multiplexed optical signals is proposed and it is applied to a space division multiple access (SDMA) in hybrid-LOS system. In the proposed scheme, multiple terminals simultaneously transmit their optical signals to access point (AP) using on-off-keying (OOK) modulation, and the spatially multiplexed optical signals are received by a photodetectors array (PD-array), where multiple PDs are disposed to observe the spatial intensity distribution of optical signals. Because the terminals transmit their data using OOK modulation, the spatial intensity distribution observed by the AP equipped with PD-array is subject to the data transmitted from individual terminals, and the AP can identify the terminals transmitting the optical signal by determining the transmitted intensity distribution. Of course, the transmitted intensity distributions are not orthogonal signal and the discriminability of transmitted intensity distributions is much related to the differences of intensity distributions. This implies that the number of terminals that can simultaneously access to the AP will be limited and it is determined by the differences of the candidate intensity distributions. In order to enhance the discriminability of the transmitted intensity distributions, the proposed signal discrimination scheme is further applied to the SD/TDMA. In the SD/TDMA, the discriminability required to enable SDMA is ensured by introducing a scheduling algorithm in which terminals with higher discriminatory of transmitted intensity distributions are allocated to the same time slot. Numerical results show that SD/TDMA using proposed signal discrimination scheme increases the throughput and the number of terminals that can access to the AP.

    In wireless mesh networks using unlicensed radio frequency band, how to adaptively and efficiently allocate spectrum among multiple wireless nodes according to the surrounding environment is an important issue. Cognitive radio that includes functionalities of radio environmental awareness and intelligent radio resource management in an opportunistic way is regarded as the great candidate to enable the efficient utilization of radio resource. In order to fully exploit radio resources and enhance spectrum efficiency based on cognitive radio to wireless mesh networks, this paper proposes dynamic subcarrier selection technique and CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) based MAC layer protocol for wireless mesh networks. In the proposed technique, based on the detection of available spot-wise subcarriers using the subcarrier-level carrier sense and the estimation of channel conditions, data packet is transmitted using unused discrete subcarriers having good channel conditions. Numerical results confirm that the proposed dynamic subcarrier selection technique is effective in utilizing radio resources and enhance spectrum efficiency. Moreover, because multiple nodes can get the transmission opportunity at the same time, the degradation in transmission performance due to the contention between multiple nodes can be solved.

    This paper will propose an unnecessary radiation power suppressing technique to electromagnetically restricted areas in ubiquitous communication environments. An adaptive array antenna is employed in each terminal to control a directivity of transmit antenna not to radiate unnecessary power to the electromagnetically restricted areas while keeping sufficient gain to a target terminal. To identify angle of departures to the electromagnetically restricted areas, a radio power sensor network is assumed. Moreover, channel sounding based delay profile estimation is conducted to identify the strongest path direction for the desired signal. Based on the identified strongest path for the desired signal and the direction of the unwanted radiation detected using the radio power sensor network, artificial delay profile for a transmitted signal is created, and antenna directivity for the transmitted signal is created using a deep and wide null creation technique based on the artificial delay profile. Computer simulation confirms that the unnecessary radiation to the electromagnetically restricted areas is sufficiently suppressed while keeping throughput at a satisfactory level.

However, 2.4GHz radio frequency band is also used for Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) devices, and the man-made noise leaked from ISM devices will degrade the performance of 2.4GHz-band wireless LAN system. In this paper, we investigate the performances of 2.4GHz-band Wireless LAN system based on IEEE 802.11g standard (IEEE 802.11g WLAN system) under microwave oven noise environment. Numerical results show that the performances of IEEE 802.11g WLAN system are much degraded by the influence of man-made noise emitted from microwave oven.

    Since most of the noise generated by electronic equipment using high-frequency devices has statistical properties that are quite different from Gaussian noise, the bit error rate of conventional receivers is greatly degraded in a man-made noise environment, because they are designed with the presumption of Gaussian noise. One of the methods of providing a better bit error rate in such a noise environment is the use of an optimum receiver. This optimum receiver attains a high bit error rate by using maximum likelihood symbol detection based on the statistical properties of the noise, and the statistical properties of the noise must be known a priori for optimum reception. In this paper, we use the Middleton class-A impulsive radio noise model as the statistical model of the noise and study the parameter estimation and bit error rate of an optimum receiver in a class-A impulsive radio noise environment. First, we evaluate the effect of errors in parameter estimation on the bit error rate of the optimum receiver in a class-A impulsive radio noise environment, and show that to improve the performance of the optimum receiver in this noise environment, we should use parameters that express the statistics of the noise. Next we study the relationship between the number of noise samples used in estimation and the parameter estimation accuracy, and demonstrate that large numbers of noise samples are needed for highly accurate parameter estimation. However, it is shown that a quite good bit error rate can be obtained by the optimum receiver in the noise environment even if parameter estimation is based on a somewhat smaller number of noise samples (for example, about 700 samples for an impulsive index A = 0.05 and a Gaussian component ratio Gamma' = 0.05).     A directed line-of-sight (LOS) system achives the highest speed communication by directional control of transmitter and receiver in the indoor infrared wireless LAN system. However, for utilizing a LOS chanel between transmitter and receiver, the performance is affected by the partition. In this paper, we discuss the probability of terminal accommodation and the transmission power in the environment with the partition and propose the system using some infrared wireless repeaters in order to reduce a loss with the partition. These results lead to validity of the proposed system by decreasing effect of a loss with the partition.

    It is well known that the electromagnetic interference (EMI) radiated from industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) apparatus seriously degrades the performance of wireless communication systems. In this paper, an ISM-band wireless local area network (WLAN) which employs a direct sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) system is designed to be sufficiently robust and reliable to operate in the presence of this EMI. To satisfy this goal, a technique to suppress EMI in the DS-SS system using a multicode transmission and an EMI observation channel is proposed. In the study, thf EMI radiated from switching-type microwave ovens (MWO interference) which are ISM apparatus is concerned, and for a tractable investigation, a statistical model to represent MWO interference based on experimental measure ment results is employed. As well known that MWO interference exhibits a bursty impulsive characteristic in time, a technique to transmit multiple long spreading codes (multicode transmission) is introduced for the DS-SS system to overcome the burstness of the interference. Moreover, inspired by the broadband in frequency of MWO interference, a technique to estimate the channel MWO interference by means of observing its levels in an adjacent channel is proposed, and this technique is applied to construct a multicode DS-SS receiver which can suppress the channel MWO interference. An evaluation of the Lit error rate performance of the proposed multicode DS-SS system is conducted bg computer simulation, and the numerical results demonstrate that the proposed DS-SS system can operate effectively even in the presence of MWO interference.

    In this paper, we investigate the bit error rate (BER) performance of Direct Sequence-Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) systems under impulsive radio noise environments, and propose a novel DS-CDMA receiver which is designed to be robust against impulsive noise. At first, employing the Middleton's Class-A impulsive noise model as a typical model of impulsive radio noise, we discuss the statistical characteristics of impulsive radio noise and demonstrate that the quadrature components of impulsive noise are statistically dependent. Next, based on the computer simulation, we evaluate the BER performance of a conventional DS-CDMA system under a Class-A impulsive noise environment, and illustrate that the performance of the conventional DS-CDMA system is drastically degraded by the effects of the impulsive noise. To deal with this problem, motivated by the statistical dependence between the quadrature components of impulsive radio noise, we propose a new DS-CDNA receiver which can eliminate the effects of the channel impulsive noise. The numerical result shows that the performance of the DS-CDMA system under the impulsive noise environment is significantly improved by using this proposed receiver. Finally to confirm the effectiveness of this proposed receiver against actual impulsive radio noise, we evaluate the BER performance of the DS-CDMA system employing the proposed receiver under a microwave oven (MWO) noise environment and discuss the robustness of the proposed receiver against MWO noise.

    In order to improve true error rate performance under radio frequency man-made noise enviroment, optimum reception based on the statistical characteristics of man-made noise has been proposed. In this optimum reception, the statistical characteristics of mam-made noise have to be estimated in advance. In this paper, we employ Middleton's class-A impulsive noise model as a statistical model of man-made noise, and discuss the parameter estimation of class-A model and the performance of optimum receiver constructed with estimated parameters. Numerical results show that, although the enormous amount of noise sample is required to obtain precise estimated parameters, a good error performance of optimum receiver can be obtained with parameters estimated by a certain amount of noise sample.

    Code division multiple access (CDMA) scheme is a current subject of great interest as a multiple access scheme for indoor optical wireless communication system. In this paper, we discuss the performance of line-of-sight indoor optical wireless communication system using PPM/CDMA scheme. At first, we evaluate the downlink and uplink performances and show that, because of multiple access interference, the number of accommodated terminals and the coverage area are much restricted. In order to obtain the large number of accommodated terminals and large coverage area, we propose a new zone construction method which divides the communication channels spatially. Numerical results conclude that the number of accommodated terminals and coverage area can be much improved by using proposed zone construction.

    In this paper, we investigate the effects of microwave oven (MWO) interference on the performance of ISM-band Direct-Sequence/Spread-Spectrum(DS/SS) system: and propose the techniques for improving the system performance. The computer simulation results show that in the presence of MWO interference, the performance of the conventional DS/SS system is severely degraded by the effects of the interference. To deal with this problem, motivated by the statistical characteristics of the interference, we propose a chips-interleaving method and a new receiver, designing for DS/SS system under MWO interference environment. It is demonstrated that an improvement in performance can be obtained by using the interleaving together with this proposed receiver.

    As an indoor wireless communication system, a line-of-sight (LOS) optical communication system has been taking a great attention. In the conventional LOS system, the communication area is covered only one transmitter and then the conventional LOS system is mainly used as the point-to-point or broadcast communication system. In this paper, by using the narrowness of optical beam width, we propose a zone construction method and discuss the increase of capacity by dividing communication channel spatially. Numerical results conclude that the capacity of LOS system with proposed zone construction is much increased compared to that of conventional one.

    As an indoor wireless communication system, a non-directional diffuse optical wireless communication system has been taking a great attention. In this system, however, to achive a large cavarage transmission, we have to use a transmitter with wide beams and a receiver with wide field-of-views (FOV's). Therefor, when we communicate with multi transmitter-receiver pairs in a room, the transmitter-receiver pairs interfere with each other. In this paper, to achive communication with multi transmitter-receiver pairs, we propose transmitter-receiver diversity system, and discuss the performance of the proposed system. This paper indicates the probability of communication with multi transmitter-receiver pairs.

    In this paper, the effect of microwave oven interferences to the performance of several digital radio communications systems (PDC, PHS, ISM-band Wireless LAN) is investigated. At first, Re measure the interferences emitted from microwave ovens and it is shown that high level interferences are emitted from microwave ovens and its emission interval is matched with a cycle of powerline. By using the measurement results. the performance of pi/4-shift QDPSK and DS/CDMA systems are evaluated. Numerical results show that the performance of pi/4-shift QDPSK is much degraded by the effect of microwave oven interference. Moreover. it is shown that, for the case of TDMA multiple access scheme, since the high level interferences are emitted periodically, a specified channel suffers from the high level interferences.

    For future high speed indoor wireless communication, a non-directed diffuse optical wireless communication system attracts a great attention. In this paper, in order to obtain enough received signal power for nondirected diffuse optical wireless communication system, a multi beam transmitter system is proposed and the performance improvement achieved by proposed system is evaluated. Numerical results show that high received signal power can be obtained by using the multi beam transmitter and the performance of proposed system is much better than that of conventional non-directed diffuse system. Moreover, we evaluate the effect of delay spread to the performance of proposed system and it is confirmed that the great performance improvement is achieved by suppressing the delay spread.

    This paper describes the performance of QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) systems under impulsive noise environment. In the analysis, we employ, as a model of the impulsive noise, Middleton's model labeled class A. First, the statistical characteristics of the in-phase and quadrature components of the impulsive noise are investigated, and it is proved that, in contrast to Gaussian noise, these components are dependent especially for the impulsive noise with small impulsive indices. Nest, with consideration of the dependence between the in-phase and quadrature components of the noise, the performance of QAM systems with the conventional receiver designed for Gaussian noise is analyzed, The numerical results show that the performance is much worse than that achieved under Gaussian noise, Moreover, we show the design of the maximum Likelihood receiver for class A impulsive noise and the great performance improvement by this receiver is confirmed.

    In this paper, a design of TCM signals for Middleton's class-A impulsive noise environment is investigated. The error event characteristics under the impulsive noise is investigated, and it is shown that the length of the signal sequence is more important than Euclidean distance between the signal sequences. Following this fact, we introduce the shortest error event path length as a measure of the signal design. In order to make this value large, increasing of states of convolutional codes is employed, and the performance improvement achieved by this method is evaluated. Numerical results show the great improvement of the error performance and conclude that the shortest error event path length is a good measure in the design of TCM signals under impulsive noise environment. Moreover, the capacity of class-A impulsive noise channel is evaluated, and the required signal sets expansion rates to obtain the achievable coding gain is discussed.

    To enhance a throughput and satisfy quality of service (QoS) requirement of WLAN stations in overlapping basic service set (OBSS) enviroment, this paper proposes a inter-BSS cooperative radio resource management scheme. In the proposed scheme, multiple BSSs are organized into a group and share the radio resource based on a centralized control by a master AP. Master AP collects channel state information (CSI) and traffic states information (TSI) by receiving control frames from group members to adaptively allocates orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) sub-channels to the stations. Numerical simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme can enhance throughput by dynamic resource allocation using frequency reuse and it is also effective to guarantee QoS requirement by avoiding inter-BSS competition especially in dense BSS deployments scenario.

    To enhance the throughput of wireless local area network (WLAN) while satisfying quality of service (QoS) requirements, Intra-BSS (Intra-Basic Service Set) centralized WLAN system has been proposed. In the system, channel and traffic state information (CTSI) of all associated stations are gathered at the access point (AP) by exchanging request-to-send (RTS) / clear-to-send (CTS) frames between AP and all associated stations, and the AP dynamically allocates reserved radio resource to the active stations based on their CTSI. However, since the exchanges of RTS/CTS frames are originally used for the reservation of radio resource, these frames should be transmitted with the lowest transmission rate, and the exchanges of RTS/CTS frames between AP and all associated stations incurs signaling overhead. To counter this problem, this paper proposes an efficient resource reservation scheme for intra-BSS centralized WLAN. In the proposed scheme, the AP exchanges RTS/CTS frames with a minimum number of stations required to reserve the radio resource for their exclusive use, and the other associated stations notify their CTSI using an adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme. Since the period required to reserve the radio resource and gather the CTSI of all associated stations are shortened, the signaling overhead can be reduced. Numerical simulation confirms that the proposed scheme enhances the throughput of intra-BSS centralized WLAN.

In this scheme, the transmitted information is divided into pieces of "shared information" by a secret sharing method and separately sent to a destination through different transmission routes with individually controlled antenna directivities. In this paper, the authors propose a joint receiver beamforming in accordance with the transmitter antenna directivity for the distributed transmission. Computer simulations clarify that the proposed scheme can enhance the degree of spatial distribution of the transmission routes. Therefore the secrecy of the transmitted information is greatly improved through the distributed transmission in wireless spaces including non-line-of sight environment from the sender.

  • Wide-area Centralized Radio Resource Management for DCF-based Multi-hop Wireless Networks

    To enhance the end-to-end throughput of multi-hop wireless network using unlicensed spectrum, this paper proposes a distributed coordination function (DCF)-based medium access control (MAC) protocol that enables a wide area centralized radio resource management (RRM). In the proposed protocol, after the acquisition of transmission opportunity in a traditional DCF-manner, a source station attempts to forward a medium reservation advertisement (MRA) frame to a destination station. MRA forwarding enables multiple stations constituting a multi-hop network to reserve the radio resource for their exclusive use throughout multi-hop wide area. MRA forwarding is also utilized to gather channel state information (CSI) and traffic state information (TSI) of stations at the central controller that is adaptively selected among the stations. After the MRA forwarding, based on the CSI and TSI of each station, the central controller dynamically allocates the resource blocks to the appropriate stations through the opportunistic two-dimensional scheduling using OFDMA scheme. Assigned RB information is notified to stations by relaying transmission schedule advertisement (TSA) frame and the stations transmit their DATA frames on the allocated RBs. Numerical simulation confirms that the proposed protocol enhances the end-to-end throughput of multi-hop network operating at unlicensed band.

In the proposed scheme, at first, narrow-beam antenna directivities are created with an array antenna installed at the transmitter. Then, the transmitted information is divided into multiple numbers of "shared information" by a secret sharing method and sent to a destination separately through the propagation routes created with the individually controlled antenna-beam directivities. In this paper, we will clarify the positive and negative effects of the narrow-beam creation. By creating a narrow beam at the transmitter, as a positive effect, each shared piece of information is concentrated along the selected paths which will enhance the dispersibility of the distributed transmission. On the other hand, as a negative effect, the transmitted power of each shared piece of information is increased due to the deterioration of the propagation gain. Computer simulations clarify that the transmission routes are formed in a separated manner along the selected path with the narrow-beam creation, so that the secrecy of the transmitted information is greatly improved with the distributed transmission. On the other hand, the transmission power should be increased to maintain a wireless link as the antenna-beam width got narrowed with the narrow-beam creation.

    To enhance the throughput of OFDMA WLAN systems, this paper proposes a stations-clustering scheme in which stations in the same basic service set (BSS) are grouped into clusters. In the proposed scheme, initially, to obtain statistics required for calculating the achievable throughput when the stations are grouped into a certain clustered-pattern, the AP and all stations belong to the same cluster and transmit DATA frames for a certain period. After that, the AP calculates the achievable throughput for all clustered-pattern and chooses an optimum clustered-pattern that maximizes the achievable throughput. Then, the stations are grouped into clusters in accordance with the selected clustered-pattern, and the stations within the same cluster share the radio resource by an intra-BSS centralized OFDMA WLAN scheme. Since the proposed scheme reduces the signaling overhead due to the feedback of CSI and the number of exposed stations while obtaining higher multi-user diversity gain, throughput of OFDMA WLAN can be enhanced. Numerical simulation confirms that the proposed scheme can improve throughput performance by introduction of dynamic station clustering.

    This paper proposes a novel spatial division multiplexing (SDM) scheme for line-of-sight (LOS) point-to-multipoint (P-MP) indoor optical wireless system. Point-to-point (P-P) transmission system allows the usage of a narrow optical signal and the transmitted signal is detected by a photodetector with a narrow field of view (FOV). P-MP transmission, on the other hand, inherently requires the usage of a spatially widespread optical signal, which makes difficult to enable SDM due to the interference between spatially multiplexed optical signals. In the proposed scheme, optical intensity distribution created by superimposed optical signals is transmitted from the transmitter and detected by the receiver with photodetectors array, where multiple photodetectors are disposed to observe the spatial intensity distribution of optical signals. Numerical results show that the SDM can be performed in LOS P-MP indoor optical wireless communication system.

    Private wireless network has to establish determinate wireless network in the limited private space that user intends. Unfortunately, because of the vulnerable and unpredictable propagation of wireless signal, the transmitted signal easily spills over to the outside of the intended private space. Unnecessary and unpredictable propagation to the outside of private space will provide the opportunity of eavesdropping of transmitted information to a malicious user existing outside of the private space. This paper proposes a novel secure wireless communication scheme using spatially separated propagation channels and multi-hop transmission technique. In the proposed scheme, the node existing apart from source and destination nodes transmits sub information required to make secret information and/or extract original information from secret one and the propagation area of secret information transmitted from source node are spatially separated from that of sub information. In addition, because sub information is transmitted by way of relay nodes, the propagation area of sub information can be adaptively controlled by the transmission route.     Secure communications against eavesdropper is one of the important requirements in wireless networks, because the propagations of wireless signals are vulnerable and unpredictable. In order to establish secure wireless communications, this paper proposes a technique to spatially separate the propagation area of secret information from those of sub information such as encryption keys. In the proposed technique, multiple nodes other than source and destination nodes transmit sub information required to make secret information and/or extract original information from secret one, and the propagation areas of secret information transmitted from source node are different from those of sub information.     This paper proposes a signal discrimination technique for multiple optical signal streams using an spatial power distribution detection technique and applies it to the spatial division and time division multiple access (SD/TDMA) for the hybrid-line of sight (LOS) indoor optical wireless communication systems. In the proposed SDMA scheme, each terminal simultaneously transmits its data stream, and the signals are detected by plural receivers, where the receivers are located in different positions so that the spatial intensity distribution of the combined optical received signals can be detected. Because the spatial intensity distribution is subject to the data pattern of the transmitted signals from the terminals, the data streams can be discriminated by the observation of the spatial intensity distribution. When the proposed SDMA is further combined with TDMA, a slot scheduling process is further employed in which user signals with high signal discriminatory for the spatial intensity distribution are allocated to the same time slot to enhance system throughput.

    For construction of private ubiquitous smart space, how to flexibly introduce wireless communication would be the most challenging requirement. However, one of the most serious problems for deployment of such ubiquitous private wireless network is, unlike public wireless networks, there is no strong coordinator that manages radio resource for all wireless nodes in a centralized way. If each user creates smart space without any consideration, the space will be flooded with electromagnetic wave radiated from many wireless nodes, and electromagnetic environment in such a private space will fall into a chaotic situation. One of the paramount important requirements in wireless communication system is secure transmission of data, because the open air wireless links are vulnerable. Especially, in the future ubiquitous network society, above mentioned chaotic situation will cause the leakage of the transmitted signal to adjacent wireless nodes. In order to solve this problem and to establish secure wireless communications, this paper will propose an electromagnetic environment control techniques using wireless mesh network system. Proposed system adaptively controls the electromagnetic environment by using the adaptive routing, and transmission power control according to the selected route. Numerical results show that the secure wireless communication will be established by increasing the number of hops in multi-hop wireless network system.

    This paper will propose an unnecessary radiation power suppressing technique to electromagnetically restricted areas in ubiquitous communication environments. An adaptive array antenna is employed in each terminal to control a directivity of transmit antenna not to radiate unnecessary power to the electromagnetically restricted areas while keeping sufficient gain to a target terminal. To identify angle of departures to the electromagnetically restricted areas, a radio power sensor network is assumed. Computer simulation confirms that the unnecessary radiation to the electromagnetically restricted areas is sufficiently suppressed while keeping throughput at a satisfactory level.

    In coming ubiquitous network society, a large number of wireless nodes will be omnipresent to a private space, and we can enjoy a variety of services and informations regardless of time or the place by accessing to the network which connected those wireless nodes with each other. The electromagnetic environment in a private space will be in a chaotic situation, because of the radio signal radiated disorderly from many wireless nodes. On the other hand, communications environment in a private space should be adaptive for various information transmissions. Then, it is necessary to construct a wireless network which is considering the electromagnetic environment, and to construct the network where the especially better communications environment can be obtained. In this paper, we propose the construction of the private wireless network using the multi-hop wireless network technology and using an optical wireless link. Computer simulation confirms that the proposed system can improve both of the electromagnetic environment and communications environment.

    The widespread use of wireless networking applications has created the need for QoS support in the WLAN systems. The support of video, audio, real-time VoIP and other applications over WLAN with parameterized QoS requirements is the key to success for 802.11 WLAN in multimedia home networking and future wireless communications. The coverage area of WLAN systems is limited and multi-hop WLAN system is considered to be one of the solutions. However, in multi-hop WLAN system, the variation of channel condition of each hop is independent, and then, QoS guaranteed transmission in multi-hop WLAN systems is still difficult and need to be resolved. This paper proposes a multi-hop WLAN system, as a solution to guarantee QoS transmission over a long distance. In this proposed system, by estimating the channel condition of each hop, the appropriate transmission rates can be selected. An algorithm to grant the appropriate transmission opportunity (TXOP) to each hop of the multi-hop WLAN system is also proposed. The numerical simulation results will show that, by using the proposed system, QoS can be guaranteed over a wide coverage area.

However, 2.4GHz radio frequency band is also used for ISM devices, and the man-made noise leaked from ISM devices will cause the performance degradation of 2.4GHz-band wireless LAN systems. In this paper, we evaluate the BER and the throughput performances of wireless LAN system based on IEEE 802.11g standard under man-made noise environment. Numerical results show that the performance of wireless LAN system based on IEEE 802.11g standard is much degraded by the effect of man-made noise.

    The performance of 2.4GHz-band wireless LAN systems is degraded by mutual interference under Bluetooth coexistence environment. IEEE802.11b standard supports multiple rates transmission and fragmentation which can reduce the degradation of performance under the influence of noise and/or interference. It is possible to reduce the degradation of performance under Bluetooth interference by using these techniques individually and more improvement is expected by using both techniques. In this paper, we propose a technique of selecting transmission rate and data length of fragmentation every packet according to propagation condition in order to avoid the performance degraded by Bluetooth interference. Numerical results conclude that the performance of 2.4GHz-band wireless LAN system is improved by using the proposed system.

    In Bluetooth system, multipath fading and/or inter-system interference cause the fluctuation of channel condition,and they are considerd to be one of the major reasons of the degradation of throughput performance. In this paper, an Adaptive Packet Transmission scheme is proposed as a method to improve the throughput performance under multipath fading and/or inter-system interference channels. In this scheme, short-term channel condition is estimated, and the optimum length and error correction code of transmitted packets are selected on a packet-by-packet basis. We compare the throughput performance of proposed scheme with that of conventional scheme and confirm that the proposed scheme lowers the degradation of throughput performance under fading and/or inter-system interferece channels.

    近年,WWW(World Wide Web)や電子メール等,インターネットサービスに代表されるコンピュータネットワークの急速な普及に伴い,インターネット接続を要望するユーザが増加してきている.特に,ノートパソコンやPDA(Personal Digital Assistant)等,小型携帯情報端末や情報家電機器の普及に伴い,時や場所に拘束されることなくネットワークへの接続やそれらの端末どうしを相互に接続する無線によるオフィス内,家庭内ローカルエリアネットワーク(LAN)を利用するユーザが増加している.様々な無線LANシステムのなかでも,2.4GHz帯無線LANシステムは,利用周波数帯の拡大,低価格化,並びに免許不要など,ユーザが利用しやすい環境が整ってきていることから注目されている.しかしながら,有線系ネットワークと比較してその伝送速度は依然不十分であり,更なる高速化技術の進展が望まれている.また,ISM(Industrial, Scientific and Medical)機器と重畳する周波数帯を利用するため,ISM機器から発生する人工雑音により,伝送特性は大幅に劣化する.本論文では,2.4GHz帯無線LANシステムの伝送特性の改善を目的として,伝搬路状況に応じて同時伝送符号数を適応的に変化させる適応マルチコード伝送方式を提案し,提案方式の伝送特性に関する検討を行っている.その結果,伝搬路状況が良好な場合においては,従来を上回る最大22Mbpsの高速伝送が実現できること,並びに,人工雑音発生時等,伝搬路状況が劣悪な場合においては,低速ながらもある程度の伝送速度を確保できることを確認した.また,一様フェージング環境下並びに周波数選択性フェージング環境下においても同様に提案方式の伝送特性について検討を行い,一様フェージング環境下における本提案方式の有効性の確認並びに周波数選択性フェージング環境下での遅延波の影響について考察した.

    A line-of-sight(LOS) optical communication system has been taking a great attention, as it achieves a high speed,high capacity indoor wireless network system. In this paper,we discuss the performance of LOS wireless communication system and propose the overlay system with directed directed LOS system and hybrid LOS system in order to increase the capacity of terminal and achieve the high speed transmission rate. Numerical results conclude that the proposed system achieves the decrease of coverage by allocating the adequate power.

Numerical results conclude that the improvement in various performance of PPM-CDMA based system are achieved by using the proposed system.

    With the increase of demands for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) systems, 2.4GHz band WLAN system has been taking a great attention, as it provides attractive features such as relative high-speed transmission, low cost, and unnecessity of the license. However, it is well known that the performance of conventional 2.4GHz band WLAN systems based on IEEE802.11-1997 and IEEE802.11b standards are seriously degraded by burst noise such as man-made noise emitted from ISM apparatus, and that the maximum transmission rate achieved by 2.4GHz band WLAN system is quite lower than one achieved by Wired LAN. In this paper, we propose a techique to suppress burst noise such as man-made noise in the DS-SS system and to achieve high-speed rate transmission using adaptive mutlicode transmission which changes the number of codes according to propagation condition. Numerical results conclude that performance of transmission rate can be much improved by using the proposed system.

However, the performance of 2.4GHz band WLAN system is seriously degraded by man-made noise emitted from ISM apparatus and multipath fading caused by multipath propagation of transmitted signal. Since radio channel is varied with time under man-made noise and multipath fading environments, it is effective to estimate channel condition for the improvement which adapt to time varying of the channel. In this paper, we focus on Carrier-to-Noise Power Ratio(CNR) as the most basic parameter which characterizes radio channel condition, and evaluate performance of CNR estimation under man-made noise and multipath fading environments. And next, we evaluate the improvement in Bit Error Rate performance of 2.4GHz band WLAN system using sector antenna with CNR estimation.

    高周波デバイスを用いた電子機器等から発生する人工雑音の多くはガウス雑音とは大きく異なった統計的性質を有するため,人工雑音環境下においてはガウス雑音下での使用を前提として設計された従来の受信機の誤り率特性は大きく劣化することが知られている.そのような人工雑音環境下においても良好な誤り率特性を確保する方法の一つとして,人工雑音環境に対する最適受信機が提案されている.この最適受信機は人工雑音の統計的性質に基づいて最ゆうシンボル判定を行うことにより良好な誤り率特性を達成するものであり,最適受信を行うに際しては人工雑音の統計的性質を事前に推定しておく必要がある.そこで本論文では,人工雑音の統計モデルとして,MiddletonのクラスAインパルス性無線雑音モデルを用い,最適受信を行う際に必要となるクラスAインパルス性無線雑音のパラメータ推定並びに推定結果に基づいてパラメータ設定された最適受信機の誤り率特性について検討を行っている.まず,クラスAインパルス性無線雑音環境下における最適受信について示し,人工雑音のパラメータ推定誤差が最適受信機の誤り率特性に及ぼす影響を評価し,人工雑音環境下において最適受信による特性改善を得るためには,雑音の統計をある程度適切に反映するパラメー夕を用いて最適受信を行う必要があることを明らかにしている.次に,推定に用いる雑音サンプル数とパラメータ推定の精度について検討し,高精度なパラメータ推定を行うには膨大な雑音サンプルを必要とするものの,ある程度の雑音サンプル数(例えば,重複指数A=0.05,ガウス成分比Γ'=0.05の場合は約700サンプル)から推定されるパラメータを用いた最適受信によっても,人工雑音環境下においても十分良好な誤り率特性が得られることを明らかにしている.

    As an indoor infrared wireless communication system, a multiple zone construction system has been taking a great attention as it achieves high spectrum efficient indoor wireless communication. In a conventional multiple zone system, since the multiple zones must be arranged without receiving interference lights from adjacent satellites, the whole room cannot be covered by infrared wireless communication system. In order to cover the whole room with coverage, however, overlapping zone construction may be applied despite a bad influence of the interference light. In this case, if the terminals are oriented to a satellite, the effects of the interference light decreases. Moreover, as terminals on overlapping zone can select a desired satellite from among accessible satellites, we can expect the improvement of the throughput performance and tolerance to shadowing. In this paper, we propose overlapping zone construction for line-of-sight indoor infrared wireless communication system and show that the performance of packet error rate and throughput can be much improved by using the proposed system.

    It is well-known that man-made noise emitted from ISM apparatus is one of the major causes of errors in ISM-band wireless local area network (LAN) systems. In general, man-made noise is not always emitted from ISM apparatus and the emission level of man-made noise is considered to vary with time. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of ISM-band wireless LAN system, the noise emission level is adaptively estimated by the wireless communication system. Carrier to noise power ratio (CNR) is the most basic parameter characterizing man-made noise and it will be widely applied to several countermeasures against man-made noise. In this paper, we discuss the CNR estimation in ISM-band wireless LAN under man-made noise environment and evaluate the bit error rate performance using sector antenna with the CNR estimation.

    小型情報処理端末やディジタル音響映像(AV)機器の急速な普及に伴い, ディジタル情報の伝達ならびに共有を目的として, それらの機器を相互に接続するオフィス/ホームネットワークの構築が注目されている。室内においてネットワークを構築する場合, その接続形態としては有線方式と無線方式に大別することができる。この内, 有線方式では高速かつ大容量・高品質なネットワークを実現できるため, トラヒックの集中するネットワークの基幹部分に適用するには適した方式であるが, 新規構築や端末の追加・再配置には柔軟に対処することはできない。それに対し, 無線方式の場合は, 伝送速度や品質の面では有線方式に劣るものの, 端末の増減や再配置に対しても柔軟に対応でき, システム構成の柔軟性・拡張性に優れることから, ネットワークにおけるEnd-to-Userの箇所に適用するには適した方式である。中でも, 伝送媒体に赤外線領域の光搬送波を用いる室内光無線通信システムは, 光搬送波の有する広帯域性ならびに伝搬路制御の容易性を活かした高速かつ大容量高密度な室内無線通信システムとして注目されている。室内光無線通信システムにおける多元接続方式としては, 電波を用いたシステムと同様に, 副搬送波による多重化, 波長分割(WDMA), 時分割(TDMA)などの多元接続方式が考えられるが, 出力電力の限界・光源の波長の不安定性・受光素子の低い波長選択性・同期確保の必要性などの理由により, それらの適用は困難であると考えられる。一方, 符号分割多元接続(CDMA)方式は, 光源の変調速度の限界により拡散帯域が制限されるものの, 上記の多元接続方式よりも比較的容易に実現できること, ならびにad-hocなネットワークでの適用が可能であることなどから注目される方式である。しかしながら, 無指向直射室内光無線通信システムの多元接続方式としてCDMA方式を適用した場合は, 干渉端末からの干渉光の影響による特性劣化が生じる。特に, Uplink(端末→サテライト)においては, 端末がゾーン中心から離れるに従い受信光電力が大きく減少するため, Uplinkにおける各端末からの受信光電力差が大きくなり, 遠近問題が顕著に現れるものと考えられる。そこで, 本稿では, 無指向直射方式を用いた室内光無線通信システムにおいて, 多元接続方式としてCDMA方式を適用した場合のUplinkにおける誤り率特性を評価するとともに, 収容端末の増加ならびにUplinkでのD/U比(希望波対干渉波電力比)の補償を目的として, 光搬送波の有する高指向性・集光性を利用したゾーン構成を提案する。さらに, 提案ゾーン構成において, アクセス制御方式としてスロット付きALOHA方式を用いた場合の特性を評価し, スループットならびにパケット誤り率の観点から提案ゾーン構成の有効性について検証する。

    A line-of-sight(LOS) optical wireless communication system with multiple zone construction has been taking a great attention, as it achieves a high speed, high capacity and high spectrum efficient indoor office/home wireless network system. However, in the LOS optical wireless communication system with multiple zone construction, the error performance will be degraded by the reflection light from an adjacent zone. In this paper, regarding the influence of the reflection light, we show the improvement of capacity and the required transmission power by using the multiple zone construction system. Moreover, in order to solve the problems that LOS system is susceptible to severe shadowing and has a limited coverage, we propose a optical and radio hybrid wireless communication system. Numerical results conclude that the performance of packet error rate and throughput can be much improved by using the proposed system.

    Man-made noise emitted from ISM apparatus is known to be one of the major causes of errors in digital radio communications systems. Although the man-made noise emitted form ISM apparatus is propagated through multipath radio channel, the direct path component appears to be a highest level component which dominates the perfomance of digital radio communication system. In the paper, we propose the way to eliminate the direct path component of man-made noise with sector antenna at the receiver. Numerical results conclude that the error performance can be much improved by using the proposed system.

    In order to obtain a high received optical signal power for non-directed diffuse indoor optical wireless communication system, we have proposed multi-beam and multi-detector repeater using optical amplifer. However, if the optical amplifier gain is restricted, optical amplifier will not emit the enough transmitted power, and then the enough received signal power will not be obtained by the receiver. In this paper, in order to transmit the enough signal power from the repeater, we propose regenerative repeater and discuss the performance improvement of non-directed diffuse system achieved by this proposed repeater. Numerical results conclude that, by using proposed repeater, the transmission speed and the coverage can be much improved compared to those of conventional non-directed diffuse optical system.

    It was already reported that the noise emitted from microwave oven significantly degrades the performance of digital radio communication system. In this paper, in order to obtain a good error performance under microwave oven noise environment, we employ the BCH error correction coding scheme and investigate the performance improvement achieved by BCH codes. Numerical results conclude that, by applying BCH coding and bit interleaving schemes, the performance of digital radio communication system can be greatly improved. Moreover, we also take a frame structure of TDMA-TDD into account and discuss the interleaving method which achieves much performance improvement with short decoding delay.

    As an indoor wireless communication system, a line-of-sight(LOS) optical communication system has been taking a great attention. In the conventional LOS system, the cormmunication area is covered only one wide optical beam and then the conventional LOS system is mainly used as the point-to-point or broadcast communication system. In this paper, by using the narrowness of optical beam width, we propose a zone construction of LOS system and discuss the increase of capacity by dividing communication channel spatially. Numerical results conclude that the capacity of LOS system with propdsed zone construction is much increased compared to that of conventional one. Moreover, we propose the multiple zone construction system and show the improvement of capacity and the required transmission power.

    光搬送波を用いた室内光無線通信システムは, 光搬送波の有する広帯域性ならびに高い指向性, 集光性から, 高速かつ大容量な室内無線通信システムとして注目されている. 中でも, 直射方式は見通し内伝搬路を確保する必要があるものの, 最も高速かつ高品質なシステムを実現し得る方式として注目されている. 従来の直射方式を用いた室内光無線通信システムは, 天井面等に設置された1つの送信機で半径1O[m]程度の単一のゾーンを構成し, 1対1通信もしくは単方向放送型の通信が主であった. 本稿では, 直射方式のゾーン構成として, 光信号の特長の1つである狭指向性を利用したゾーン構成を提案し, 通信チャネルを空間的に分割し複数の端末を収容することによる通信容量の増加について検討を行う.

    無指向拡散反射方式室内空間伝送光通信システムにおいて, 広範囲な領域に亘って高い受信光電力を達成し通信可能距離の拡大を図る方式として, 複数の光源を有する送信機を用いたマルチビーム方式が提案されている. しかしながら, マルチビーム方式では, 信号光が送信機から受信機へ到達する際の伝搬遅延時間が各光源ごとに異なるため遅延広がりの増大を招き, 高速伝送時には, 受信光電力の増大にもかかわらず, 符号間干渉により特性が劣化する問題がある. そこで本稿では, 送信側もしくは受信側において伝搬遅延時間差を補償することで遅延広がりを抑圧し, マルチビーム方式において高速かつ広範囲な領域における通信を実現する方法を提案し, この方法を用いた場合の信号伝送特性およひ誤り率特性について検討を行う.

    In this paper, we investigate the effect of microwave oven interference on the performance of DS/CDMA system. At first, using the microwave oven interference measurement result, the statistical characteristics of the interference is studied, and then the performance of DS/CDMA system under microwave oven interference environment is evaluated. The evaluation result indicates that the presence of microwave oven interference significantly degrades the performance of DS/CDMA system. Moreover, we propose the receivers of DS/CDMA system for microwave oven interference environment and show the performance improvement achieved by using these proposed receivers.

    In order to obtain a high received optical signal power for non-directed diffuse indoor optical wireless communication system, a multi beam transmitter system has been proposed. For the case of high data transmission rate, however, the performance of multi beam transmitter system is much degraded because of the ISI caused by increased delay spread. In this paper, in order to suppress the delay spread of multi beam transmitter system, we propose two delay spread suppression methods, and evaluate the performance improvement achieved by proposed methods. Numerical results show that, by using proposed methods, the delay spread of multi beam transmitter system is suppressed and multi beam transmitter system can achieve better performance in high data transmission rate.

    搬送波に光信号を用いる室内光無線通信システムは, 潜在的広帯域性等の光信号の有する優れた特長を利用した方式として注目されている. 中でも, 指向制御および見通し内伝搬路を必要としない無指向拡散反射方式は, システム構成の柔軟性の面から考えると最も望ましい方式といえる. しかしながら, この方式では送受信機間距離が大きくなるに従い受信光電力が急傲に低下するため, 伝送速度および通信可能距離が大きく制限される. これまで, 筆者らは, 無指向拡散反射方式において, 送受信機間距離が離れた場合においても十分な受信光電力を確保する方法として, 中継器を用いたシステムを提案している. しかしながら, 単一の中継器を用いた場合は, 通信可能距離を20[m]程度まで拡大できるものの, 広領域に亘る信号光電力の送信ならびに遅延広がりの増大により, それ以上の通信可能距離を達成することは極めて困難である. そこで本稿では, 無指向拡散反射方式において, 20[m]以上の送受信機間距離を達成できる方式として, 文献で提案した中継器を多段接続したシステムを提案し, これによる通信可能距離の改善効果について検討する.

    As an indoor wireless communication system, a non-directed diffuse optical wireless communication system has been taking a great attention. In this system, however, as the distance between the transmitter and the receiver increases, the power of received signal is rapidly decreased and then the conventional non-directed diffuse system cannot achieve a large coverage and a high speed transmission. In this paper, in order to obtain a enough received signal power for non-directed diffuse system, we propose a multi-beam and multi-detector repeater and discuss the performance improvement of non-directed diffuse system achieved by this proposed repeater. Numerical results conclude that, by using proposed repeater, the transmission speed and the coverage can be much improved compared to that of conventional non-directed diffuse optical system.

    The performance of radio communication systems is much degraded by the effect of microwave oven interferences, and then in order to obtain a good error performance under microwave oven interference environment, the radio communication systems should be designed for microwave oven interference environment. In this paper, using the class-A impulsive radio noise model, we propose a statistical model of microwave oven interference and discuss the performance improvement achieved by an optimum reception. Numerical results conclude that the first order statistical characteristics of microwave oven interferences can be modeled as a class-A impulsive radio noise and their effects are decreased by using optimum reception.

    非常に狭い光ビームが使用される衛星間光通信では,送信機のビーム指向精度に通信品質が大きく左右されるので,指向誤差を検出して相手側にアンテナを正しく指向させる空間追尾には非常に高精度が要求される。これまで筆者等は,従来の空間追尾方式のように4象限光検波器(4QD)を用いることなく,単一の光検波器と2つの局発光を用いて方位角・仰角方向の指向誤差を検出する光ヘテロダイン検波空間追尾方式を提案してきた,本報告では,本方式において光搬送波の位相雑音に対処するためIF段の非同期検波によって指向誤差を検出する構成を提案し,雑音等価角(NEA)について理論解析を行う.

    近年の情報機器のめざましい発達に伴い,室内無線LANに対する需要が急速に増加している.特に光信号を用いた室内光無線LANは,その潜在的広帯域性から,将来の大容量通信時代に対応できる方式として注目されている.しかし,現在までに提案されたシステムでは,送受信系が無指向性である場合には受信光電力の低下を招き,また一方,送信ビームに指向性をもたせた場合には,受信光電力は改善できるが,精細なアライメントが必要となるためシステムの柔軟性が制限される.そこで本稿では,システムのアライメントに対する柔軟性を維持しつつ,高い受信光電力が得られる室内光無線LANシステムとして,垂直方向へのビームの他に周辺方向へのビームを有する送信機を使用したマルチビーム拡散方式を提案し,その信号伝送特性の理論解析を行う.

    In this paper,a design of TCM signals for Midleton′s class-A imp ulsive noise environment is investigated.At first,the error event characteristics under impulsive noise is investigated,and it is shown that,for the design of TCM signals under impulsive noise environment,the shortest error event path length is a more important measure than the squared Eucldean distance.Following this fact,we increase the states of convolutional codes and show that the great performance improvement is achieved by increasing the number of the states.Moreover,from the viewpoint of channel capacity,the required signal sets expansion rates to obtain the achievable coding gain is discussed.

    ガウス雑音とは大きく異なった統計的性質を有するインパルス性雑音環境下においては,ガウス雑音下での使用を前提として設計された従来の受信機では十分な特性を得ることができず,インパルス性雑音の統計的性質に基づいた受信機設計を行う必要がある.そこで本論文では,インパルス性雑音の統計的性質について検討を行い,雑音の同相成分と直交成分の非独立性を利用して送信シンボルの判定を行う受信機を提案している.まず,インパルス性雑音の同相成分と直交成分の統計的性質について検討し,直交成分に高振幅の雑音(インパルス雑音)が生じている場合には,同相成分にもインパルス雑音が発生している確率が高くなることを示している.次に,この統計的性質を利用して送信シンボルの判定を行う受信機を新しく提案し,その受信機を用いることによって従来型受信機を大きく上回る最適に近い特性が得られることを明らかにしている.更に,雑音の同相成分と直交成分の非独立性が最ゆう判定を行う最適受信機の構成に与える影響について検討し,インパルス性雑音環境下において最適受信を行う場合は,BPSK方式などの搬送波に対する同相成分のみを用いて信号伝送を行う通信方式においても,直交成分に生じる雑音を観測する必要があることを明らかにしている.

    In this paper,the performance of CDMA system under Class-A impulsive noise environment is investigated.At first,the performance characteristics of multiple access systems are discussed,and it is shown that the performance of CDMA system is expected to be better than those of other multiple access systems. Next,we evaluate the performance of conventional CDMA system designed for Gaussian noise and show that the performance of conventional CDMA system is much degraded by the effect of impulsive noise.Moreover,we propose the new receiver of CDMA system designed for Class-A impulsive noise.Numerical results conclude that the great performance improvement is achieved by using this proposed receiver.

    2.4 GHz-band wireless LAN system based on a new standard, IEEE 802.11g, has been taking a great attention as it provides the attractive features such as low cost, unlicensed spectrum use, and high speed transmission rate up to 54 Mbps. However, 2.4 GHz radio frequency band is also used for Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) devices such as microwave ovens, and the man-made noise leaked from ISM devices is known to be one of the major causes of the degradation in the performance of wireless communications systems using 2.4 GHz radio frequency band. In this paper, we evaluate the bit error rate (BER) and the throughput performances of WLAN system based on IEEE 802.11g standard (IEEE 802.11g WLAN system) under man-made noise environment, and discuss the effect of man-made noise on the performance of IEEE 802.11g WLAN system. Numerical results show that the BER and the throughput performances of IEEE 802.11g WLAN system are much degraded by the influence of man-made noise.
