In this paper, firstly, property, combustion quality, and exhaust gas characteristics of sewage sludge-derived pyrolysis oil were analyzed. Secondly acceptance of biomass fuel and pyrolysis oil was interviewed to sewage sectors and consumers. As a result, followings were clarified : i) the calorific value can be improved by deoxidization ; ii) nitrogen content influences exhaust gas characteristics ; iii) each sectors have their own recognition and acceptance of environmental values for biomass and pyrolysis fuels.

From the viewpoint of global warming prevention, it is expected that sewage sludge will be used effectively as low-calorific energy resources. Then, experiments of the pyrolysis of dry sewage sludge using the fluidized-bed reactor were carried out. It was found that reaction temperature and the amount of supply steam have an influence over the pyrolysis oil yield and composition. From these results, it suggests that oil production process from sewage sludge with Internally Circulating Fluidized-bed Gasifier (ICFG) can be formed.

Decades of growing urbanization in the 20<SUP>th</SUP> century, which have enabled massive industrial accumulation as well as continual intra and inter migration of population from rural areas to urban and peripheral areas, brought various tangible and intangible environmental costs not only for the cities themselves but the surrounding regions as well as the nation and the global environments. While several plans and concepts have been proposed such as growth management, sustainable planning, compact city, or industrial symbiosis, those concepts need to be defined from implementational planning and policy perspectives in order to identify the appropriate urban management strategies for a long run. In this paper, authors attempt to establish the planning and estimation systems which provide planning alternatives to cover wide range of urban management tools such as spatial management, energy supply management, transportation management, and material resource management, as well as provide objective estimation indicators for urban utility and environmental impacts. After various evaluation techniques are organized, implementational evalation are shown for environmental efficiency and ecological impact indicators. Alternative planning options for a long-run urban management are discussed with hierarchical planning stages.

This study attempts to evaluate socio-economical impacts due to consumption of resources and energy with rapid industrialization in East Asia by means of Environmental Accounting System and to discuss about sustainable industrial transformation. Firstly, this paper reviews the unbalance growth between regions In China and regional environmental problems. Secondly, it highlightens the basin of Chang Jiang and Pearl River with Open Economic Zones in Coastal Delta and Backward Basins in China. In addition, it calculate environmental load (i. e. Sulfur oxide and COD) induced by inter-transaction of goods and services in these basins by using the Inter-regional input-output analysis. As a result, environmental load in the areas of upper stream is induced by the Inter-regional activities between the areas of down stream.

Since Earth Summit, Some concepts about cyclic systems, such as an eco-industrial park, have been appeared in order to solve serious global environmental problem, surplus consumption of resources and problems of solid wastes. Construction of recycle-oriented regional industrial metabolism model with minimum environmental load requires resource conversion facilities. In addition, there are some promotion factors to make the model, which can improve the efficiency and supply and demand balance. In this study, various conversion facilities and sectors are selected by a set of judgement process of cycle formation. The followed environmental performance is evaluated using account matrix including sectors varing from neighborhood of a factory to city-wide area. As a result of the analysis, various important factors were recognized in considering comprehensive efficiency, environmental load by the transportation, and the usefulness of this account matrix towards further progressing the complex.

都市とライフスタイルの相互依存に関する基礎的研究

Preliminary analysis is attempted to examine environmental independence between urbanization and lifestyle using input-output model.Here the model is based on Japan Input-Output Tables for 1970, 1980 and 1990 at a higher lebel of aggregation. Preliminary results are shown as follows: a) yearly carbon dioxide emission patterns due to consumers'expenditure are explained as multiplication of slightly decreasin emission intensities and increasing household expenditures; b) both effecting and responsing coefficients are calculated with consideration of carbon dioxide inducement, and this shows yearly reflection of lifestyle on the industrial structure.
