Proposal on the Recommendation Service of Music Based on User's Actual Location

So, users can share the impact depending on the consistency between the scenery and the music. This system will promote the download of music in outdoors inevitably.

In this article, we discuss the evaluation of an impression displayed by presentation contents which are constructed by a dialogue between embodied characters. There are many types of presentation style to provide information to users to get a better understanding. If the way which information is shown through an embodied characters' dialogue is adopted, the characters have the faces and bodies in order to be "embodied", so, the information provider must care about meanings of a state of nonverbal expressions of the embodied characters. People display and exchange nonverbal expressions including eye-gazes, noddings, and facial expressions in daily conversation. Nonverbal expressions convey various kinds of information that is essential to make our face-to-face communication successful. In the previous work on social psychology, it is known that there are interdependences among nonverbal expressions between those from different persons in conversation with each other. We apply this knowledge to a dialogue between embodied characters, which provide information to users, so that we evaluate if the presentation dialogue expresses the corresponding atmosphere to an expected atmosphere.

Development and Application of Pictograph Chat Communicator

The pictograph chat was implemented on a personal digital assistant (PDA) for the chat communications only of the pictograph, and the application experiment including the foreigner was performed. The experiment that added the alphabet as pictograph was performed, too. It was suggested that this system be suitable for the conversation with the foreigner by whom the word was not understood or the intimate friend because of the result of the experiment. The pictograph is insufficient, and to make easily to use, the function of the display of the example of the pictograph and the necessity of the retrieval function have been understood though the experiment engages one's interest.

The features of this game are that a treasure cannot be obtained if two people do not cooperate and a pictograph communication. From concentrated experiments of pleasurability, the following points became clear that participants evaluated highly the avatar operation system that used GPS location information. Moreover, the cooperation system by which each player's position became a point allowed location information to be used well.

We have developed a communication support system named ISS including promoting function of communication among users who can communicate by sharing the hobby information, the personal information of situations, states and existence. We have applied the system to the work group such as a laboratory. The results of application show that the communication is enriched, becauseISS increases the chance of communication. Communication is inspired by a "non-genre message" or a manual judgment function.

In this article, we present a chat system in which embodied characters behave as agents of users and automatically act on messages of the users and the other character's action. We display and exchange nonverbal expressions including gestures, eye-gazes, noddings, and facial expressions in daily conversation. Nonverbal expressions convey various kinds of information that is essential to make our face-to-face communication successful. In the previous work on social psychology, it is known that there are interdependences among nonverbal expressions between those from different persons in conversation with. each other. We apply this knowledge to the chat between embodied characters, so that 3D characters interactively act by user's messages. The system evaluation results demonstrated higher validity than the system that the user explicitly indicates the character's actions.

If we have not enough information, we spend much time to communicate between our friends. We have developed an information sharing system, which will be enabled to communicate between friends smoothly. The system shared many data of the desktop windows and uses the stored data of chats. We have developed a prototype guide system, which was named The Forbidden City Explorer. This system has real-time information sharing functions including image data, chatting, and mutual location information. It gives priority to shared images and chats, supporting a friendly user interface and simple operation methods, especially creating shared images to be used by general people. We applied the system twice to the Forbidden City in Beijing. Users were Chinese. The results of the experiments are as follows: (1) The evaluation of the image data sharing function was timely. (2) With a simple operation, many shared images and chat messages were created.

Proposing the Interdependencies Model between Nonverbal Conversational Signals Displayed by Embodied Agents in a Dialogue

This paper proposes a method of properly controlling nonverbal conversation signals(NCS) displayed by embodied agents which inform users through their dialogues, according to the atmospheres. The controls is important not to convey misunderstanding meanings from their NCS to users. It reports in the field of social psychology that there are some interdependences between NCS expressed in person-to-person dialogue. We focus on the interdependences and classify each scenes of dialogue, aiming to inform audiences, into three essential situations. Then, we define the three situations as atmospheres, and propose a procedure to maintain the interdependences between NCS, which vary with the atmospheres. Finally, we experiment using NCS extracted by TV programs aiming to inform users through dialogues between TV personalities, and evaluate the NCS realized by our procedure.

A solution of lighting problems in Image-Based Rendering

Usual Image-Based Rendering(IBR) has disadvantage in creating an image under an arbitrary illumination environment. Several peoples have discussed this illumination problem on the basis of picture sequences taken in many different illumination environments at a fixed point, based on the theory of the dichromatic model. They take heuristic approaches to deal with the specular reflection component, while some present a solution to the diffuse reflection component using the theory. In this paper, we present a procedure to create an image of dielectric objects from a virtual camera set in an arbitrary environment at an arbitrary position. The image is obtained from three image sequences taken in three kinds of illumination environments. The procedure includes a novel proposal of determining the points of specular refletion on the objects by calculating them using the theory of reflectance map.
