Regional and yearly changes of flowering date in Prunus yedoensis studied for the observetion by the Meteorological Agency

Flowering dates of Prunus yedoensis observed by the Meteorological Agency were investigated for changes of latitudes. Flowering dates of normal year at the sites among the regions from 31°N. L. to 35°N. L. at a leading part in the Pacific coast were hardly different from each other. At northern regions above 35°N. L, flowering dates did not advanced as gain for latitude. Flowering dates changed year by year. At northern regions of Japan, Flowering date in the mild winter were earlier than that in normal year. On the other hand, Flowering date in the mild winter were later than that in normal year at southern regions. Effects of the winter chilling on the release for dormancy of flower buds in Prunus yedoensis were-investigated. There were negative relationships between the numbers of chilling days and the daily mean temperature at flowering days. Dormancy was not released in the midwinter days whose daily mean temperatures were below 0°C.

Studies on the production of Qurcus acuta THUNB. seedling

The second year seedlings of Qurcus acuta THUNB. were planted to 36, 64 and 121 plants per square meter. It was studied of the most efficient density for producting large seedlings whose heights were over 50cm. Three growth parameters of seedlings were measured every one month from May to December. They were tree heights, tree spreads and stem diameters at ground level. All growth parameters at beds with 36 plants were greater than that of beds with 121 plants in December when the annual growth were finished. For example, plant heights were 58.6 and 48.1cm, tree spreads were 24.0 and 19.3cm, and stem diameters were 7.4 and 6.0mm. The standard deviations in each growth parameter between beds with 36 plants and 121 plants followed another. The plants whose heights were over 50cm exceeded 45 percentages at beds with 64 and 121 plants. And there were the greatest number of plants at beds with 121 plants. It indicated that the most efficient planting density that produced large seedlings of Q. acuta were planted to 121 plants per square meter.

Practical studies on the formation of small type biotops on the building roofs at the city

We created the small type biotop on the building roof for the experiment at Itabashi ward, Tokyo. The biotope was composed of shallow pond, marsh, bank and shrubbery. And it was planted three species of aquatic plants at pond and marsh, and five species of fruit and flowering trees at shrubbery. The bank was made by vegetation blocks stripped from Miscanthus sinensis and Inperata cylindrica meadow at Higashimatsuyama city, Saitama Prefecture. As a result, wild scenery with diverse over forty species of wild plants was formed on the building roof; the vegetation of Cyperus iria and Cyperus difformis at the marsh, Typha orientalis in the pond. Five species of dragonflies flew and established at the biotope. Aquaruis paludum and Papilio xuthus were the same. In adittion, five species of birds and some species of insects involving butterflies and grasshoppers flew into the biotope. These results are considered that the ecosystem based on feed chains was formed on the building roof in the city.

Effect of the Chilled Treatment on the Flowering of Phlox subulata L.

Phlox subulata L. were grown in two cold conditions ; at 5℃ and outdoor, for 0,20,40 and 60 days from Dec. 4. Then the plants were transferred to two growth chambers under 20 hrs photoperiod ; at 25℃ constant, and day/night temperature at 25/18℃ (Experiment 1). In the summer, the other plants were grown in two cold conditions ; at 10℃ and 15℃, for 5,10,15,25 and 40 days from July 25. Then the plants were carried to outdoor (Experiment 2). Many inflorescences were formed in the chilled treatments of Experiment 1,however only a few inflorescence was formed in the not chilled treatments of Experiment 1,and in the all treatments of Experiment 2. These results indicated that P.subulata required cold stimulation to form inflorescences only in the winter. So P.subulata is the faculative chilling required plant. The shoot lengths were shorter as the chilled periods were longer. There were negative relationships between lengths of shoots and numbers of inflorescenses (P≦0.05). The relationships seem to be one of the correlative inhibition phenomenon.

水平・垂直移動がサザンカの開花に及ぼす影響

本研究では,サザンカの天然分布と植栽分布が大きく異なる要因を解明する目的で,本種の個体を高冷地と高緯度地へ垂直,水平移動させて育成する実験を行った.その結果,高冷地や高緯度地のような寒冷な場所では,秋季以降の早期の温度低下によって栄養成長活性が早くから低下し,これにともない,栄養成長のもつ開花抑制効果が早くから低下することで開花が早まることを明らかにした.反面,サザンカの花芽の耐冷性は低く,寒冷地では10月頃の初霜によって急激に花芽が枯損することを解明し,このことが自生分布を暖地に偏らせた要因であることを指摘した.

開芽からの恒温条件がサザンカの開花,土用芽の発生に及ぼす影響

本研究では,サザンカのフラッシュ以降の成育ステージでみられる花芽の発育ならびに開花温度特性を人工気象室を用いた育成実験の結果をもとに生理生態学的に解析した.その結果,本種の開花率が栄養芽の不時成長である土用芽の発生によって低下することと,土用芽の発生は夏季の温度条件の影響を強く受けることを解明し,夏季の温度条件が間接的に本種の開花率を決めることを明らかにした.そして,葉芽と花芽の発育に係る生理活性が拮抗する相互抑制の関係にあることを指摘した.この指摘は,植物生理学上きわめて重要なものと位置づけられる.

本研究では,初夏に花芽形成され,しかも花芽の休眠しないサザンカの開花が,夏季から秋季ではなく晩秋以降になる要因について人工気象室を用いた育成実験の結果をもとに生理生態学的に解析した.その結果,サザンカの生殖成長にともなう生理活性は夏季から秋季に高温条件下で抑制され,このために本種の開花が冬季にまで遅れることを明らかにした.さらに,本種の天然分布が九州地方に限られた主因が,夏季から秋季にかけての温度・日長特性にあることを指摘した.

白色蛍光灯を光源とする人工照明下におけるグランドカバー植物数種の生育に関する研究

本研究では,都市空間等でのアメニティー効用とテクノストレス等への対応として期待される室内緑化に適用できる緑化植物の選定と,種別の生育特性を明らかにする目的で,人工照明下におけるセダム類を中心とした数種のグランドカバーの生育状況を検討した.その結果,種別の生育限界の照度を解明するとともに,照度の違いが各種の形態形成に及ぼす影響について論及した.これらのことをもとに,今後の室内緑化のあり方について考察した.

緑化用ゼラニウムの挿し木増殖手法に関する研究

本研究では,緑化に供する材料植物の多様化,花物の導入を目的とし,プラグトレーとパーライト等の人工土壌を用いたゼラニウムの品種別の挿し木実験を実施した.そして,その結果から,効率的な緑化用ゼラニウムの増殖システムを考案した.さらに,生産効率の良さと,施工地における景観形成の両面からゼラニウムが優れた緑化材料であることの指摘を行った.さらに,供試した品種の中から緑化に適したゼラニウムの品種選定を行い,緑化材料としてはミスターレン系統が優れていることを明らかにした.

オオスギゴケを用いた張り苔の生産手法に関する研究

本研究では,省力化緑化材料である植生盤の生産手法を体系化する目的で,従来の張りゴケ,蒔きゴケでの生産性及び施工性の低いオオスギゴケを対象として,土壌条件を違えた3種類の植生盤を試作し,それぞれに植付けられた供試植物の成長経過を検討した.その結果,容器内に粘土分を含んだ粒子の細かいマサ土を満たすことで,早期に植物体で覆われた植生盤を生産できることを明らかにした.さらに,オオスギゴケ植生盤の特徴と生産に係る効率を整理し,植生盤を用いた緑化工法の有効性,省力性を指摘した.

Feeding value of rice whole crop silage as compared to those of various summer forage crop Silages

本研究では,水田の公益的機能を活かしたままの減反に伴う転作方法のひとつとして期待される水稲ホールクロップサイレージについて,その飼料としての有効性を検討する目的で,ソルガム,ミレット,イタリアンライグラス等,他の原料から製造されたサイレージの成分及び乳牛の採食行動と飼料の消化性を比較した.その結果,供試したサイレージの中で,水稲ホールクロップサイレージが成分的にも乳牛の採食の面からも他のサイレージより優れていることが明らかとなった.
